Foal spam from this afternoon. We brought Lola & baby in for the hottest part of the day & turned them out once it started cooling off again. This heatwave is horrendous! It's forecast to be over 40°C on Sunday 🥵🥵🥵

Vella is looking imminent.... she was bang on her due date with Pimo. Guess what today is? Vella's due date. It might be a long night 🌙

Well we weren't expecting that 😳

We went up to the field tonight to feed Smartie & take Jazzy's mask off as usual. We were absolutely not expecting to find Lola standing with a foal!!! Her due date isn't for another week, and I thought she wasn't exactly looking imminent. However - here I stand corrected by the most stunning beautifully marked perfect c**t foal 😍😍😍 I couldn't be happier!!

Lola & baby are now safely inside out of the 36°C heat 🥵

Thank you so much to Saphira's owner for this fabulous update on the wee munchkin 💕 She's looking so well and happy! How exciting to see her starting her ridden career and taking it all in her stride. This is what makes a breeder super happy and proud 🥰

I don't like "counting my chickens" because sooooooo much can go so wrong with foals, but we are expecting a full sibling to Saphira in a few weeks time who will be available to a top home 🏡

Pimo is sold to a top eventing home in England 🇬🇧 he's just awaiting transport after being on livery here whilst he matured. He will have a full sibling available, due at the end of the month by Chilli 🌶 (Freckleton Enchilada - Renkum Englishman x Monte Carlo x Demonstrator) out of Vella (Elvingston Carnavella - Carnaval Drum X Eugano X Parceval)

Smartie turned 29 today! When Scott went to see her at Dickie Berry's yard in Selkirk as a fresh 6yo, she tried to buck him off 😳🤣 When Scott looked at her passport & saw the were born on the same day 10 years apart, it was a done deal. Smartie is tougher than nails, has loved her job of doing all the Border rides every year, including being Scott's flag horse in 2015 when he was Selkirk Standard Bearer. She's since been loving her well earned retirement, taking charge of the foals and youngsters as chief nanny, feuding with Vella & bossing Gem & Jasmine around (despite being their junior 😆)

Scott also enjoyed his birthday cake - less carrots 🥕 and sugar beet - more rhubarb & sugar 😋🎂

Hot pregnant mares 🥵 the Warmbloods were sweating buckets in the 35°C heat but the Arabs were pretty comfortable! Bella was far too hot & pregnant to be social. It's never too hot for Lola butt scratches 😂 Vella has really started to change shape... not long now!

Not the usual thing that you have to fish out of the water trough!

I went across to feed Jack & Pimo yesterday and there was almighty splashing coming from their trough! A young buzzard had obviously gone in for a drink & had got too saturated to get out again.

Buzzard-fishing is now one of the long list of things you can do with a shavings fork!

Surprisingly the boys weren't too flabbergasted by their feathery floater! We put the Buzzard up on a bale to let him dry out, and when we went back later it was gone. Glad we found it and it wasn't stuck all night. Also very lucky the boys need their water topped up and it could reach the bottom!

Pixie went on a wee road trip to Brittany today to meet her new boyfriend Darwin de l'Ormeau 💕 Fingers crossed 🤞 for a Pixie foal just as nice as the Sprite next year 😍
