In a fast paced world, here’s a bit of slow paced horse training for you!!
My 24 year old paint mare Caroline and me playing with the pole exercise that I call:
“One foot over”.
This exercise is not about performance or getting it right. It’s about communication.
Can I without touching Caroline communicate to her which leg or legs I would like her to move forwards or backwards over the pole?
This is an excellent exercise to work on fine tuning communication with body language and voice cues and it’s great to practice good timing with the marker signal and food rewards.
It helps the horse develop body awareness and proprioception and best of all, they usually find it interesting and fun.
