🇪🇸 Safe Journey ~ Gute Reise! 🇩🇪

Four of our lucky SCAN cats started the journey to their new homes in Germany today, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our charity partners Animal Help Espania e. V. ❤️

Gunter came to us after his family had to move into an apartment and were unable to take him with them😢. He had a difficult start at the shelter where he found it hard to settle in. Fortunately, as he got to know the volunteers he began to relax and enjoy his time, drinking water from the hosepipe and playtime in the courtyard with the other cats 🩵

Mercedes found her own way to the shelter in the engine of our SCAN van!!! She was just a young kitten and had to be located and removed from the vehicle before going into one of our foster homes. We’re not sure why but Mercedes was always overlooked by prospective adopters, so we couldn’t be happier to finally see her leaving the shelter 🩷

Eddie & Cali were born in someone’s garden to a feral mother. The kittens were rescued and taken straight into a fabulous foster home as they weren’t in great condition. After a few weeks of good food, great care and a bit of medication, they were ready to come into the shelter in order to find homes of their own. We are so happy that the two siblings will be starting this new adventure together 🩵🩷

We look forward to seeing how they are settling into their new homes and send a huge ‘Vielen Dank’ to everyone at Animal Help Espania for making it possible 😘

💶FUNDING APPEAL💶

Just over two weeks ago, our gorgeous ginger boy Barney underwent surgery to repair his fractured femur ❤️‍🩹

When Barney was found in the area outside the shelter, we noticed a slight limp on his back leg, but he didn’t seem to be in pain and it really didn’t look too bad!!

The next day his limp seemed to look a bit worse, so we asked our vet to examine him. We couldn’t believe the results when an x-ray revealed a nasty fracture of his back right femur which would require a surgical pin and plate to repair it 🙀

The surgery was successfully carried out at the Specialist Clinic, Benivet in Benissa on 29th September and Barney is now recovering in a fantastic foster home ❤️‍🩹

Unfortunately, his recovery requires him to be confined to a small cage, or puppy pen in this case, to prevent him from jumping about, until the bone has had time to start knitting together again 😔

With weekly vet reviews, he has already spent 2 weeks in confinement and needs to stay there for a further 4 weeks 🙀💤

At the moment, the vets are very happy with his progress and he is coping fairly well. He is allowed out for some gentle walks on his harness and he loves nothing better than a good cuddle on someone’s lap ❤️

Barney is the sweetest, most loving boy with a constant purr like a finely tuned engine!! Once he is fully recovered, whoever gets to adopt this amazing boy will truly have hit the jackpot 🥇

The vets think his injury could be consistent with being thrown from a car or it’s possible that he sustained his injury elsewhere and was ‘dropped’ outside SCAN, hoping that he’d be found 😢🤷‍♀️

We will never know what really happened to him but at least he is safe and once his recovery is complete he should be able to lead a normal life ❤️

At the moment, the cost of his initial x-rays and examination at our own vet, plus the Specialist examination, surgery and follow up medication has cost over 1,000 euros and he could still require follow up x-rays to confirm that everything is healing as it should 🙏🏼

As we have also had some other surgeries and specialist consultations in recent weeks, we would be so grateful to anyone who would like to make a donation towards the veterinary costs 🙏🏼

Without the generosity of our SCAN supporters we wouldn’t be able to help cats like Barney receive the treatment and care that they need ❤️

🩷AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION 🩷

If you like something a bit sweet, why not consider adopting our marvelous Muffin 🧁 💕

Muffin, her mother and another sibling turned up in the garden of one of our SCAN dog adopters late last year. Her mother and sibling moved on but Muffin was either left behind or decided to stay 💕

The family couldn’t adopt her but their gardener decided to look after Muffin until he had to return to his home country and couldn’t take her with him 😢

Muffin is a beautiful Siamese type girl with the most beautiful blue eyes which are slightly cross eyed, making her even more adorable 💕

Although she was a little bit shy during her first few days at the shelter, Muffin has started to relax and has shown us what a gentle, affectionate and all around sweetheart she is 💕

She is now approximately 10-12 months old and is ready to find a furever home of her own 🤞

What a brilliant day! 💙🐾

More than 120 people joined us for SCAN’s Animal Blessing, helping to raise an amazing €1,700 after expenses! The sun shone, Becky B kept the music flowing, the SCAN Bar kept everyone refreshed, and all 85 pre-booked Ploughman’s Picnic Boxes disappeared, with many coming up for seconds, or a little snack to take home!

Our two vicars blessed the many shelter cats and dog, plus our guests’ dogs, and it was especially lovely to see so many adopted SCAN dogs enjoying life with their new families. We absolutely love it when they come to visit!

A huge thank you to everyone who came, donated, performed, volunteered and helped make the afternoon so special. You’re all pawsome!
