🌅 BREAKFAST IS SERVED… BUT IT’S NOT QUITE THAT SIMPLE! 🐴
An early morning at the rescue centre, and Bronson is flanked by his two friends as they wait patiently — or perhaps reasonably patiently — for breakfast.
With around 120 rescued animals to care for, feeding time is rather more complicated than filling a few buckets and shouting, “Come and get it!”
Every horse, pony and donkey is an individual. Age, condition, dental problems, previous injuries and ongoing health issues can all affect what and how much an animal needs to eat.
That means our forage team has quite a responsibility each morning. A whiteboard provides the all-important guide, showing what each field needs so that the correct forage goes to the correct animals. With so many fields and so many residents, relying on memory would be an excellent way of creating breakfast-related anarchy.
And forage is only part of the story.
Some of our older or more vulnerable horses are brought out of their fields separately for additional feeds with a higher nutritional value. Others need supplements or medication added to their feed, while changing health or weight can mean that diets have to be adjusted again.
It is a constantly evolving operation. The horses are monitored closely, changes are noticed and feeding plans are adapted accordingly.
For Bronson and his friends, however, the matter is considerably less complicated.
Behind this peaceful early-morning scene is a carefully organised daily routine — one of the many things happening quietly, seven days a week, to keep every rescued animal at Easy Horse Care as healthy and comfortable as possible.
