Today, along with our riders Juan and Alfredo, we visited one of the oldest watering troughs on the estate.
This one sits along the old path that once linked the villages of El Gastor and Montecorto, and dates back to the late 18th or early 19th century.
What makes it particularly interesting is how it was designed to cater for different types of livestock. It’s made up of two sections at different heights and sizes: a larger, higher one for horses and cattle, and a smaller, lower one that’s easily accessible for goats, sheep, dogs, and other animals.
The water originally came from a natural spring within the mountain, but over time the channels split and the water found another way out, leaving the trough dry today.
Set in a truly special spot and surrounded by beautiful views, we see it as one of the most historic corners of Finca La Donaira.

Hoy junto a nuestros jinetes Juan y Alfredo visitamos uno de los abrevaderos más antiguos que componen nuestra finca.
Este en especial, se sitúa en el antiguo camino que unía los pueblos de El Gastor y Montecorto, construyéndose a finales del SXVIII principios del S.XIX.
Es muy interesante porque está pensado para que puedan beber multitud de especies de ganado, puesto que se compone de dos espacios con alturas y tamaños diferentes. Uno más grande y alto para caballos y vacuno, y otro más pequeño y bajito accesible a cabras, ovejas, perros,…
Antiguamente procedía el agua de un nacimiento situado en el interior de la montaña, pero con el paso de los años los conductos se fueron dividiendo y el agua encontró otra salida, dejando el abrevadero seco a día de hoy.
Situado en un espacio único, y rodeado de hermosas vistas, lo consideramos como uno de los lugares con más historia de Finca La Donaira.
