For my last housesit before heading off to a summer job in the Canadian wilderness, I made sure to make the contrast as dramatic as possible and moved to the heart of Vancouver to look after Abby and her son, Levi.
Surrounded by high-rise buildings and busy streets, I was lucky to be tucked away in a quiet corner close to the ocean (where I saw orcas for the very first time!).
I spent most of my days preparing for a season with the bears and Abby and Levi were absolute perfect companions throughout it all! They made me feel so at home and I miss them both dearly 💗

My soul wasn't quite ready to leave Salt Spring Island just yet so I found another peaceful home in nature shared with the sweetest companion: Cookie 🍪🤍
We lived the perfect balance between rest and adventure:
Slow mornings on the front porch practicing yoga or watching the hummingbirds become addicted to sugar water or deer grazing in the garden and daily walks including encounters with the neighbourhood cats, curious llamas, more deer, and the occasional wild bunny.
Cookie, of course, would have happily chased them all.

Vancouver hikes and lots of kitty cuddles this spring!
They settled everything with a game of rock-paper-scissors: who got my lap by the fire place on chilly evenings, who claimed my chest in bed or my belly during shavassana at the end of a yoga practice, who got to use me as a trampolín at 4am to demand breakfast or who pounced on me first when chasing around the house.

And still, my love for them grew so big I came back to take care of them a second time!

Rosita and I spent almost a month together on Vancouver Island.We watched the last snow fall and enjoyed the first rays ...

Rosita and I spent almost a month together on Vancouver Island.
We watched the last snow fall and enjoyed the first rays of spring.
We spent relaxing days on our deck or roamed around the farm with her on her little leash, and ended each day sitting beneath the moon, listening to the owls and frogs. It became our nightly ritual, one she made sure we never missed, loudly reminding me by meowing the song of her people at the door whenever it was time 🎶

I also became good friends with Rosita's mama and I'm grateful to have a place where I always feel welcome here on my new favorite island! ♥️
