Do you know what K9 stands for?! 👀

K9 stands for “Canine,” which means dog.
It comes from the English word canine, pronounced “kay-nine.”

Examples of K9:
🐕 K9 Unit – A police dog unit or working dog unit.
🦮 K9 Training – Dog training.
🐾 K9 Academy – A dog academy or dog training business.
🎖️ Military K9 – A military working dog.

K9 is used internationally, making it a great choice for a dog-related business name.
Whenever you see K9 in the dog world, it generally refers to dogs, dog training, or working dogs. ❤️🐾

That means that any dog can be a K9 😄

Your dog should be able to:
🐾 Run around the barrel (from both the left and right sides)
🐾 Run through the tunnel
🐾 Run through a HOOP (without you needing to touch the dog).

Of course, there will be prizes for
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place! 😄

⛈️🐾 THUNDER & LIGHTNING – HOW TO HELP YOUR DOG FEEL SAFE ❤️

Storms can be frightening for many dogs.
The loud sounds of thunder, flashes of lightning and changes in the weather can cause stress, anxiety and insecurity.

As dog owners, there are several things we can do to help our dogs feel safer and more comfortable. 🐶💕

🐾 Create a safe space
Let your dog choose a quiet, comfortable place where they feel protected. Their bed, a familiar blanket or a covered crate (if they already feel comfortable in one) can help.

🐾 Stay calm and supportive
Your dog looks to you for guidance. Stay relaxed and behave naturally. And remember: it's absolutely okay to comfort your dog if they seek reassurance. You cannot reinforce fear by offering comfort and security.

🐾 Reduce the noise and flashes
Close windows, curtains and shutters. Playing calm music or turning on the TV can help mask the sound of thunder.

🐾 Offer positive distractions
If your dog is willing, try a chew, a stuffed Kong, a lick mat or a simple scent game. Never force your dog to eat or play if they're too frightened.

🐾 Plan ahead
Take your walk before the storm arrives, if possible. During thunderstorms, keep your dog safely indoors and avoid off-leash walks. If you must go outside, use a secure harness and leash.

🐾 Never punish fear
Fear is an emotion, not bad behaviour. Never force your dog to face the storm or ignore their need for distance and security.

❤️ Every dog is different. Some dogs only need a little reassurance, while others experience severe storm anxiety. If your dog panics, tries to escape or struggles to recover after a storm, speak to your veterinarian. There are ways to help.

Remember: you don't need to make your dog stop being afraid. Your job is to help them feel safe.

A safe dog is a dog who knows they don't have to face their fears alone. 🐾💗

It’s a really fun sport to do with your dog!
You follow a course and perform various exercises indicated by signs. of course, we use treats to motivate and reward! 🍬😄

So, for any dogs wanting to cool off today, the pool is ready. 😄

As always during HOOPERS and AGILITY sessions, we focus on the placement of our arms and legs. 🙆🙅
Be clear and show the dog where you want it to go.

In obedience training, we focus on *WHAT* or *WHERE* we want the dog to be, and we *ALWAYS* reward correct behaviour.

What constitutes a reward?
- Using our voice
- Petting the dog and physical contact
- Using a toy and playing together
- Treats to encourage and motivate

We started the day with an obedience/puppy class, focusing on taking things slow, teaching our dogs where to place their paws, and following their owners.

We warmed up by following the hand and working on steadiness—which was a challenge! 😄 Great job!

Tonight, we’re continuing with Nosework and obedience.
Nosework:

💡 Small treat pieces
💡 Read your dog carefully so you don't reward the "wrong" thing.
💡 It’s important to be quick with the reward.

In today’s Nosework session, we’ll be working on height searches and really focusing on marking the correct scent. In Rally Obedience, we’ll continue practicing the signs and maintaining the right mindset.
