¡¡PEDRO Y MARIO ADOPTADOS!!🥳

Fue la primera vez, y probablemente la última, que hemos encontrado adoptantes para b***os sin siquiera ponerlos "formalmente" en adopción.😁

Hace unas semanas, comenzamos a pensar qué tipo de hogar necesitarían Mario y Pedro. Aunque encontrar un hogar para dos burritos jóvenes y adorables podría parecer fácil, su edad (ambos tienen solo 1 año) también presenta algunos desafíos. En primer lugar, significa que, con suerte, vivirán al menos 30-35 años más, por lo que los adoptantes deben poder cuidarlos a muy largo plazo. Los b***os jóvenes también tienden a sentirse más seguros y felices creciendo con b***os adultos, y notamos que sin la compañia de más b***os les faltaba un poco de confianza. Finalmente, ambos ya llegaron con problemas de cascos, por lo que idealmente irían a un hogar con mucho espacio para moverse, pero con menos pasto verde.

Al darnos cuenta de todo esto, recordamos a los adoptantes de Sueve y Marlon, una familia con un niño pequeño que vive cerca de Ponferrada. Anteriormente habían acogido a 4 b***os y cumplían con todos nuestros requisitos para Mario y Pedro. Así que decidimos preguntar si estarían interesados en adoptar a Mario y Pedro, ¡y dijeron que les encantaría!😃

Estábamos un poco nerviosos por cómo reaccionarían Sueve y Marlon, pero todo salió de maravilla. Sobre todo Sueve estaba muy emocionado, los adoptantes nos dijeron que era la primera vez que escuchaban su rebuzno! Parece que los 2 están muy dispuestos a guiar y cuidar a nuestros dos pequeños.🥰

Estamos contentísimos de haber encontrado este fantástico hogar para Mario y Pedro, estamos seguros de que allí estarán muy felices y queridos. ¡Muchísimas gracias, Jacobo y Rocío, por dar a Mario y Pedro la vida y la familia que merecen!💙

PEDRO AND MARIO ADOPTED!!🥳

It was the first time, and probably the last, that we found adopters for donkeys without even "formally" putting them up for adoption.😁

A few weeks ago, we started thinking about what kind of home Mario and Pedro would need. While finding a home for two adorable young donkeys might seem easy, their age (both are only 1 year old) also presents some challenges. First, it means that, hopefully, they will live at least another 30-35 years, so adopters must be able to care for them very long-term. Young donkeys also tend to feel safer and happier growing up with adult donkeys, and we noticed that without the company of more donkeys, they lacked a bit of confidence. Finally, both already arrived with hoof problems, so ideally they would go to a home with plenty of space to move around, but with less green pasture.

Realizing all of this, we remembered Sueve and Marlon's adopters, a family with a young child who live near Ponferrada. They had previously fostered four donkeys and ticked all our boxes. So we decided to ask if they would be interested in adopting Mario and Pedro, and they said they would love to! 😃

We were a little nervous about how Sueve and Marlon would react, but everything went wonderfully. Sueve, in particular, was very excited; the adopters told us it was the first time they had ever heard him bray! It seems that both of them are very willing to guide and care for our two little ones. 🥰

We are incredibly happy to have found this fantastic home for Mario and Pedro, and we are sure they will be very happy and loved there. Thank you so much, Jacobo and Rocío, for giving Mario and Pedro the life and family they deserve! 💙

ATADOS Y RELAJADOS 🧘

¡Pedro y Mario están creciendo y aprendiendo muy rápido! Los b***os jóvenes, en particular, aprenden con mucha facilidad, tanto cosas buenas como malos hábitos...😅 Algunos puntos clave que siempre intentamos aplicar:

1. El entrenamiento no se limita a la media hora diaria que has reservado en el calendario; cada momento que pasas con tus b***os es una oportunidad para aprender y ganar confianza. Siempre que estés con ellos, sé constante y consciente de tus reacciones ante sus comportamientos.

2. Recuerda ir paso a paso y no forzarlos demasiado fuera de su zona de confort. ¿Tu b***o aún no se siente cómodo con que le toques las patas? No intentes levantarlas. Es muy tentador avanzar demasiado rápido, sobre todo cuando ves que estás progresando. Pero si presionas demasiado a tu b***o, retrocederás tres pasos enseguida.

3. Tampoco hagas cosas con las que tu aún no te sientas cómodo. Si tienes miedo, tu b***o lo notará y se pondrá nervioso también. Dar pequeños pasos también te dará más confianza al manejar a tu animal. A menudo, el primer paso puede ser cepillarlo, o incluso simplemente pasar tiempo con él sin pedir nada más. No importa si otras personas ya pueden hacer más; lo importante para una confianza a largo plazo es que tanto tú como tu b***o se sientan seguros.

4. La comida como premio, no como distracción. Preferimos premiar con atención y caricias, pero cuando usamos comida para entrenamiento, la usamos para premiar el buen comportamiento, no como distracción. Aunque pueda parecer una solución fácil, distraer a un b***o con comida no le enseña nada y aumenta su ansiedad al obligarlo a sufrir estres para poder comer. Más aún porque, al bajar la cabeza para comer se siente muy vulnerable. Por eso, cuando nuestros b***os comen los dejamos en paz.

5. Sé amable contigo mismo. Nadie es perfecto y todos nos hemos emocionado demasiado o impacientado alguna vez. Tu b***o te perdonará; simplemente respira hondo y empieza de nuevo.😌

TIED UP AND ALL RELAXED 🧘

Mario and Pedro are growing and learning fast! Especially young donkeys learn very easily, good things but also bad habits...😅 A few key things we always try to apply:

1. Training is not the half hour a day you have put in your calendar, every moment you spend with your donkeys is a moment to learn and increase confidence. Whenever you are with your donkeys, be consistent in and aware of your responses to behaviours.

2. Remind yourself to take small steps and not push too far outside of their comfort zone. Is your donkey not yet comfortable with you touching his legs? Don't try to lift them. It is so tempting to advance too fast, especially when you see you're making progress. But if you push your donkey too much it will immediately set you back 3 steps.

3. Don't do things either that you are not yet comfortable with. If you are scared, your donkey will sense this and become nervous as well. Taking small steps will also make you feel more confident handling your animal. Often, the first step can be brushing, or sometimes even just spending time around your animal without asking anything else. It's okay if other people can already do more, the important thing for long-term trust is that both you and your donkey feel safe and comfortable.

4. Food as a reward, not distraction. We prefer rewarding donkeys for behaviour with attention/scratches, but when we do use food for training we use them to reward good behaviour, not as a distraction. Although it can feel like an easy solution, distracting with food doesn't teach a donkey anything, and increases anxiety by forcing them to undergo stressful situations in order to eat. More so because when a donkey lowers its head to eat, it feels vulnerable. So when our donkeys are eating, we leave them alone.

5. Be kind to yourself. Noone is perfect and we have all gotten overexcited or impatient some time! Your donkey will forgive you, just take a deep breath and start again.😌

¡A DESAYUNAR! 🌾🌾🥣

¿Sabías que el alimento más importante para los b***os es LA PAJA? Se asemeja al forraje bajo en calorías y rico en fibra de su hábitat natural desértico, y ayuda a su sistema digestivo a funcionar correctamente.

Un exceso de hierba fresca y los piensos ricos en azúcares y almidones pueden causar graves problemas de salud. Por lo tanto, la parte principal de la dieta de un b***o siempre debe ser paja, complementada con heno y/o hierba fresca. Como Pedro y Mario son burritos jóvenes en crecimiento, también les damos un suplemento de vitaminas y minerales bajo en calorías.

El pienso generalmente solo es necesario para b***os con bajo peso, mayores o con problemas de salud, y también debe ser rico en fibra y bajo en azúcares y almidones. El pienso adecuado para caballos con sobrepeso suele ser adecuado incluso para b***os con bajo peso. El pienso con cereales nunca es una buena opción para un b***o.

BREAKFAST TIME!🌾🌾🥣

Did you know the most important food for donkeys is STRAW? It resembles the low-calorie, high fibre forage from their natural desertic habitat, and helps their digestive system function correctly.

Too much grass and feeds high in sugars and starches can cause serious health issues. Therefore, the main component of a donkey's diet should always be straw, supplemented with hay and/or grass. Because Pedro and Mario are young donkeys who are still growing, we also give them a low-calory vitamin mineral supplement (forage balancer).

Pelleted feed is generally only necessary for donkeys who are underweight, older, or with health issues, and should also be high-fibre and low in sugars and starches. Pellets that are suitable for overweight horses tend to be suitable even for underweight donkeys. Cereal grains (muesli) are never a good option for a donkey.

¡BIENVENIDOS "PEQUEÑOS"!🥰

La cuadra aquí en Galicia no está listo, ni tampoco el vallado. Pero el pequeño Mario, de 8 meses, no podía esperar: tenía que venir ya o acabaría en el matadero. Por suerte, un vecino maravilloso nos ofreció una cuadra grande en su finca, que solo tuvimos que vaciar.

Poco antes del día del transporte de Mario, recibimos un mensaje de Asociación "Burru" en Quirós pidiendo ayuda con nuevos rescates. Pero todas eran hembras vinculadas, y Mario aún no está castrado. La solución: uno de los b***os que ya vivía con nuestros amigos de "Burru", el jovencito Pedro de 7 meses, pronto se separaría de su madre. Y como tiene más o menos la edad de Mario, ¡sería un compañero estupendo para él! Así, Mario no estaría solo y en Burru tendría espacio para acoger a nuevos rescates.

Creemos que fue una solución buenísima: estos dos pequeños, que pasaron por tantos cambios en un solo día (separarse de su manada y de su madre y dejar el único lugar que conocían como hogar), ahora al menos se tienen el uno al otro para apoyarse y acompañarse. Se conocieron en el remolque y cuando llegaron, ya veíamos que habían creado un vínculo. Mario se convirtió enseguida en un Super Mario, que logró saltar sin esfuerzo la valla eléctrica cuidadosamente colocada. ¡Fue un poco estresante!😅 Por suerte, una valla más alta con una linea de cinta extra parece funcionar hasta que está la valla permanente. Pero también hemos pedido ya un localizador GPS, para reducir un poco nuestra ansiedad.🤪

Ambos chicos se están portando muy bien, aunque se nota que extrañan a su manada, y el estrés de todos los cambios recientes es evidente. Están siempre juntitos y se buscan cuando se sienten inseguros. Sin duda serán los mejores amigos para el resto de sus vidas.💫

Bienvenidos, pequeño Super Mario y Pedro Peluche: ya nos enamoramos de vosotros, y aunque la situación actual no es la que teníamos en mente para nuestros primeros burritos en Galicia ni la más práctica, aquí nunca os faltará de nada.❤️

WELCOME "LITTLE ONES"! 🥰

The stable here in Galicia isn't ready, nor is the fencing. But little Mario, 8 months old, couldn't wait: he had to come now or he'd end up at the slaughterhouse. Luckily, a wonderful neighbor offered us a large stable on his property, which we only had to empty.

Shortly before Mario's transport day, we received a message from association "Burru" in Quirós asking for help with new rescues. But they were all bonded females, and Mario isn't castrated yet. The solution: one of the donkeys already living with our friends at "Burru," young Pedro of 7 months old, would soon need to be separated from his mother. And since he's about the same age as Mario, he'd be a great companion for him! That way, Mario wouldn't be alone, and Burru would have space to welcome new rescues.

We think it was a brilliant solution: these two little ones, who went through so many changes in a single day (being separated from their herd and their mother and leaving the only place they knew as home), now at least have each other for support and companionship. They met in the trailer, and when they arrived, we could already see they had formed a bond. Mario immediately turned out to be a Super Mario, effortlessly jumping over the carefully placed electric fence. It was a bit stressful!😅 Luckily, a higher fence with an extra line seems to work until the permanent fence is up. But we've also already ordered a GPS tracker to reduce our anxiety a bit.🤪

Both boys are being very brave, although it's clear they miss their herd, and the stress of all the recent changes is evident. They're always together and look for eachother when they feel insecure. They will undoubtedly be best friends for the rest of their lives. 💫

Welcome, little Super Mario and Pedro Peluche: we've already fallen in love with you, and although the current situation isn't what we had in mind for our first donkeys in Galicia, nor the most practical, we promise you'll never want for anything here.❤️

CASO EXTERNO URGENTE: ¡ADOPTA A JAKE Y ROSA Y AYUDA A MÁS ANIMALES!❤

Jake y Rosa son dos burritos jovenes que viven actualmente en un pequeño santuario de caballos cerca de Villalba, Galicia. Tras un comienzo difícil, con la ayuda y la paciencia de su actual dueña se han recuperado de maravilla. Ahora están listos para un nuevo hogar, y esto es bastante urgente porque (como suele ocurrir en los centros de rescate) el espacio se necesita para otros animales que necesitan ayuda urgente.

Son dos burritos adorables, Jake es el más bullicioso, mientras que Rosa es un poco más cautelosa al principio, pero ya hemos visto que tampoco necesita mucho tiempo para adaptarse a nueva gente. Ambos llegaron al santuario con cascos muy descuidados, y aunque esto ha mejorado muchísimo, aún necesitan recortes de cascos regulares por parte de un profesional experto (podemos ayudar con contactos).

Adopción solo con CEA/REGA equino y el compromiso de no usar los animales para la cría, ni venderlos ni regalarlos. Los adoptantes deben tener un establo o refugio y suficiente terreno (al menos unos 4000 m² para 2 b***os). Los gastos de transporte son a cargo del adoptante.

URGENT EXTERNAL CASE: ADOPT JAKE AND ROSA AND HELP MORE ANIMALS!

Jake and Rosa are two young donkeys who currently live at a small horse sanctuary near Villalba, Galicia. After a rough start in life, with the help and patience of their current owneress they have recovered tremendously. They are now ready for a new home, and this is quite urgent because - as often at rescue centers - the space is needed for other animals who urgently need help.

They are two lovely donkeys, Jake is the boisterous one of the two, while Rosa is a bit more cauteous at first, but we have already seen she also doesnt need much time to warm up to new people. They both arrvived at the sanctuary with very neglected hoofs, and although this has improved tremendously they do still need regular hoof trims by a knowledgeable professional (we can provide contacts if needed).

Adoption only with an equine CEA/REGA and compromise to not use the animals for breeding, and not to sell nor give them away. Adoptants must have a stable or shelter and sufficient land (at least 4000m2 for 2 donkeys) and are responsible for transport costs.

CASO EXTERNO: PONI Y B***O EN ADOPCIÓN RESPONSABLE

Rayito (Rayo, poni de 4 años) y Roni (Ronaldo, b***o de 5 años) son dos machos castrados con microchip y pasaporte. Se encuentran en Asturias (zona central) y sus dueños actuales esperan encontrar adoptantes en la provincia.

Normalmente no emparejamos b***os con ponis (ambas especies tienden a tener vínculos más fuertes con los de su misma especie), pero Rayito y Roni llevan juntos desde pequeños y tienen un vínculo muy fuerte, por lo que SOLO PUEDEN SER ADOPTADOS JUNTOS.

Rayito y Roni fueron rescatados del matadero por sus actuales dueños cuando eran muy pequeños y siempre han sido cuidados con cariño y dedicación. Lamentablemente, sus dueños ya son mayores y reconocen que cada vez es más difícil seguir brindándoles los cuidados y la atención que merecen. Es importante tener en cuenta que los b***os pueden llegar a los 35 o incluso 40 años, así que antes de responder, CONSIDERA SI PUEDES COMPROMETERTE A CUIDARLOS DURANTE 30+ AÑOS.

Tanto a Roni como a Rayito les gusta que los acaricien y son curiosos. Dejan que sus dueños les pongan un cabestro, aunque a veces requiere un poco de paciencia. El b***o sabe levantar las patas, pero el poni probablemente necesite algo de entrenamiento, ya que no tiene experiencia.

Atención: este es un caso externo; no conocemos a estos animales personalmente y no nos responsabilizamos de la exactitud de la información en esta publicación.

Requisitos mínimos para adopción:

- CEA/REGA (permiso para tener equinos)
- Establo o refugio y al menos 4000 m² de terreno vallado

EXTERNAL CASE: PONY & DONKEY UP FOR RESPONSIBLE ADOPTION

Rayito (Rayo, 4 year old pony) and Roni (Ronaldo, 5 year old donkey) are two castrated males with microchip and passport. They are in Asturias (Central) and the owners hope to find adopters within the province.

Normally we do not match donkeys with ponies (both species tend to develop stronger bonds with their own kind), but Rayito and Roni have lived together since they were little and have a strong bond, so THEY CAN ONLY BE ADOPTED TOGETHER:

Rayito and Roni were rescued from slaughter by their current owners when they were very little and have always been cared for with love and dedication. Unfortunately, their owners are getting older, and they recognise it is increasingly difficult to continue giving them the care and attention they deserve. It is important to note that donkeys can get 35 or even 40 years old, so before responding PLEASE CONSIDER IF YOU CAN COMMIT TO CARING FOR THEM FOR 30+ YEARS.

Both Roni and Rayito like to be caressed and are curious. Their current owners can halter them, although sometimes it requires some patience. The donkey knows how to give his feet, but the pony will likely need a bit of training as he has no experience.

NB: this is an external case, we do not know the animals personally and we are not responsible for the accuracy of the information in this post.

Please note the minimal requirements for adoption:
