Before the show ring, before breed standards and registrations and certainly before egos, there was the working Cane Corso.

Forged by the demands of rural Italy, the Cane Corso earned its reputation through courage, intelligence and unwavering loyalty. This wasn’t a dog bred for appearance, it was bred for purpose.
A versatile farm dog capable of hunting, guarding livestock, protecting the family and working alongside its owner from dawn until dusk.

“A true Hercules, generous with children and small dogs… good at herd watching… a fearless fighter… guardian of the house, preferring to give its life rather than allow a thief to steal… always attacking from the front, bringing the opponent to the ground and sparing it if it does not resist.”
— Il Cane Corso, Flavio Bruno

# 🐾 TEACH YOUR DogTO STOP PULLING ON LEASH

# # # Walk Calm. Walk Confident. Walk Connected.

By Many Paws 🖤

Leash pulling is one of the most common problems dog owners face — especially with strong guardian breeds like the Cane Corso.

The good news?
Your dog is not trying to dominate you.

Most dogs pull because:

* Pulling works
* They’re excited
* They want to explore
* They were never taught how to walk correctly

Loose leash walking is a skill.
And like every skill — it can be trained.

---

# 🦴 WHY DOGS PULL

Dogs naturally move faster than humans.

When they pull and still get where they want:
🐕 Smells
🐕 Dogs
🐕 People
🐕 Movement

…the pulling becomes self-rewarding.

Our goal is simple:

# Calm leash = Freedom

# Tight leash = Movement stops

This teaches the dog that staying connected to you makes the walk continue.

---

# 🔥 STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

# # 1️⃣ START IN A LOW-DISTRACTION AREA

Begin somewhere calm:
🏠 Inside the house
🌳 Quiet street
🚶 Empty area

Use:
✔ Properly fitted collar or harness
✔ Standard leash
✔ High-value rewards

Keep the leash relaxed from the beginning.

🐾 **Tip:** Start easy before adding distractions.

---

# # 2️⃣ START WALKING

Begin moving forward normally.

The SECOND your dog pulls and creates tension on the leash:

# STOP WALKING

Do not yank the leash.
Do not drag the dog backward.

Simply become still like a tree.

🐾 **Tip:** Pulling should NEVER move the dog forward.

---

# # 3️⃣ WAIT FOR THE LEASH TO LOOSEN

Be patient.

The moment your dog:
✔ Stops pulling
✔ Looks back
✔ Steps toward you
✔ Releases leash tension

…mark the behavior with:
✔ “YES!”
✔ Praise
✔ Reward

Then continue walking.

🐾 **Tip:** Loose leash = reward and movement.

---

# # 4️⃣ REWARD THE POSITION YOU WANT

Reward your dog for staying:
✔ Beside you
✔ Calm
✔ Connected
✔ Checking in with you

Your dog should learn:

> Walking with you is more rewarding than pulling away.

🐾 **Tip:** Reward near your left leg to encourage proper walking position.

---

# # 5️⃣ REPEAT & STAY CONSISTENT

Consistency creates clarity.

The rules must ALWAYS stay the same:

# Pull = Stop

# Loose Leash = Walk Continues

Every single walk is a training session.

🐾 **Tip:** Short successful sessions work better than long frustrating walks.

---

# # 6️⃣ PRACTICE EVERYWHERE

Once your dog improves:

* Practice in busier areas
* Around distractions
* Around dogs
* Around people
* In new environments

Dogs don’t generalize automatically.
Training must happen in many places.

🐾 **Tip:** Increase difficulty slowly to build confidence and success.

---

# ⚡ QUICK RECAP

✅ Start in calm environments
✅ Stop when the leash gets tight
✅ Reward loose leash behavior
✅ Stay consistent
✅ Practice daily
✅ Build difficulty gradually

---

# ❌ COMMON MISTAKES

🚫 Letting the dog pull “sometimes”
🚫 Yanking the leash constantly
🚫 Using punishment instead of guidance
🚫 Training too long
🚫 Moving too fast into difficult environments

---

# ✅ PRO TRAINING TIPS

✔ Use high-value rewards outdoors
✔ Keep sessions short and positive
✔ Stay calm and patient
✔ Reward engagement often
✔ Better walks come from consistency — not force

---

# 🖤 MANY PAWS PHILOSOPHY

Strong Training. Stronger Bond.
Raising Legends. One Command at a Time.

Your leash should feel like communication — not a battle.

---

# 🐉 Cane Corso Walking Reminder

Cane Corsos are powerful working guardians.

They thrive with:

* Structure
* Calm leadership
* Consistency
* Clear boundaries
* Daily engagement

Don’t fight the dog.
Teach the dog.

Connection first.
Control follows.
