Sean (Sean) of The Margaret River Discovery Co - Wine & Adventure Tours has heard rumors about them for years seen near the Karri tree, near the football fields at Boranup Ridge and at Cape Mentelle but this rare bird is still lurking.

Until one day, I got a phone call from Gathered Organics of Margaret River that changed everything.

"I dropped everything and rushed right away. And yes it's really there." Sean Narrates.

But this is not a common Bodin black-cockatoo, but it's even rarer with a leucistic one.

Leucism is a genetic condition that causes a feather to become lighter in color or have an abnormal pattern, which makes it more distinct than other birds in the flock. And even more exciting, Sean spotted it with another pair, fluffing each other like a perfect couple.

"The Bodin Black Cockatoo is considered critically endangered, and just seeing one of them is wonderful. But have you seen this one? Absolutely incredible"

(These photos were taken 3 weeks ago, and since then the flocks have continued to fly, exploring the vast areas of the South West)
