🐱✨ TamTam’s Successful Urinary Stone Surgery 🩺
TamTam 🐱 presented to Pets House Veterinary Hospital 🏥 with signs of lower urinary tract discomfort, including:
• Straining during urination
• Frequent attempts to urinate
• Blood-tinged urine
• Vocalization due to pain
🔎 Diagnosis
Abdominal ultrasound revealed a hyperechoic structure with acoustic shadowing within the urinary bladder.
Plain abdominal radiography (X-ray) confirmed the presence of a radiopaque bladder stone (urolith).
Based on the clinical signs and imaging findings, a radiopaque bladder urolith was diagnosed.
The extracted stone was suspected to be Calcium Oxalate (CaOx) based on its appearance; however, definitive identification of its mineral composition requires urolith analysis.
⚠️ Why Calcium Oxalate Stones Matter
Calcium oxalate uroliths:
• Cannot be dissolved medically or through dietary dissolution protocols
• May recur after removal
• Can potentially contribute to urinary obstruction
• Often require surgical or minimally invasive removal when clinically indicated
🏥 Surgical Treatment
After performing the necessary pre-operative examinations and preparing the patient for anesthesia, a cystotomy was successfully performed under inhalational anesthesia.
The bladder stone was removed, followed by thorough bladder flushing to remove residual sediment and small urinary calculi.
🩺 The patient was carefully monitored throughout the procedure and recovered well from anesthesia.
💊 Post-Operative Care
• Appropriate pain management
• Urinary diet according to the final urolith composition
• Encouraging adequate water intake
• Regular urinalysis follow-up
• Periodic ultrasound/X-ray monitoring when indicated
💙 TamTam recovered well after surgery and is now comfortable and urinating normally.
Early diagnosis, appropriate imaging, and proper long-term management are essential in feline urinary stone cases. 🐾
