🌍🐾 World Rabies Day 2026🐾🌍

Today, I had the privilege of organizing a collaborative Free Rabies Vaccination Campaign in Otjiwarongo, Namibia!

I’ve been fortunate to work with rabies prevention in different countries and communities over the years, and every campaign teaches me the same lesson: veterinary medicine is not only about treating animals when they are sick. Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is prevent that illness from ever happening.

And that is what One Health looks like to me! Protecting animals, protecting people, and working together with communities. ❤️

Today, on World Rabies Day, I’m grateful to have spent the day doing a small but meaningful part of that work.
Vaccinate. Educate. Prevent. 🐾💉💪🏽

Happy International Puma Day! 🐆❤️🐾

A powerful and magic predator from the Americas!

Pumas are remarkable for their adaptability, occupying an incredible range of habitats, like my homeland, the highlands of Ecuador! 🇪🇨❤️🏔️ Yet, like so many wild species, they face increasing pressure from habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and other human-driven threats.

As wildlife veterinarians, conservationists, and simply people who care about the natural world, we have a responsibility to understand the species, protect their habitats, and support coexistence.

Today, we celebrate the puma not only for its beauty, but for its place in the wild. 🐾🌎

🐆 Somaliland Throwback Series | 2021

Meet Yaku.

Yaku was one of the first cheetah cubs I received while working in Somaliland. He arrived at just 3 weeks old, together with his three siblings. We called them “The Elements” — and this little one was named Yaku, meaning “water” in Quechua, one of Ecuador’s Indigenous languages. 🇪🇨

At only a few weeks old, Yaku needed intensive care, including an IV catheter and continuous intravenous therapy. For the next couple of weeks, our days revolved around feeding, monitoring, treating, and simply hoping these tiny cubs would pull through.

Caring for them was incredibly rewarding, but it also came with an uncomfortable reality: these cubs should never have needed us in the first place.

Cheetahs belong in the wild, not in the hands of people who see them as exotic pets or commodities. The illegal wildlife trade takes wild animals away from their mothers, their families, and their natural lives.

No wild animal should ever be a pet. 🐆

🐾🎉 Happy International Cheetah Day! 🐆✨

Today, I want to share why these incredible big cats have stolen my heart. 💛 Working with cheetahs has been challenging yet a very rewarding experience. From caring for orphaned cubs in Somaliland 🍼🌍 to helping in reducing human-wildlife conflict in Southern Africa 🩺✨, every cheetah I’ve met has taught me something new about resilience and the delicate balance of nature.

Did you know cheetahs face threats like illegal pet trade, habitat loss, and climate change? 💔 In Somaliland, I saw firsthand how young cubs are trafficked to become exotic pets—leaving them malnourished, scared, and far from their wild homes. Thankfully, organizations like work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate these cubs, giving them a second chance.

🌟 Fun fact: Cheetahs’ famous spots aren’t just beautiful—they act as camouflage, helping them stay safe in the wild. 🐆💨

Cheetahs may be the fastest land animals, but they need us to slow down and protect their future. Let’s work together to ensure this iconic species thrives for generations to come.

💕💭 Question of the day: If you had the chance to name a cheetah, what would you call it? Drop your ideas in the comments! 👇
