Most of our journeys are personally guided by Sally, who founded Ride Andes nearly 30 years ago after leaving her life in Paris for Ecuador and the Andes.

That changes the atmosphere of a ride completely.

There is a natural ease that comes from travelling with someone who knows the horses, the routes, the haciendas and the local horsemen personally - not through inspection trips or brochures, but through decades of living and riding here.

Why ? Because travelling on horseback from one place to another changes the way you experience a country 🐎🗻

A true place-to-place ride is very different from returning to the same lodge each evening. There is a sense of movement to it - of truly crossing landscapes rather than simply visiting them.

Each day unfolds differently. New terrain, changing scenery, different horses waiting along the route, remote trails leading towards another historic hacienda or mountain estancia by evening.

In the Andes especially, this style of riding feels wonderfully natural. Horses remain part of daily life here, and some of the most beautiful places can still only really be reached on horseback.

By the end of the journey, guests feel they have not just visited a country, but travelled through it properly.

Haciendas of the Andes has long been Ride Andes’ defining ride in Ecuador - bringing together exceptional horses, dramatic landscapes, historic haciendas and long, exhilarating days in the saddle.

The route moves through two strikingly different regions of the Ecuadorian Andes. One day, riders cross the lush green valleys and farmland surrounding Zuleta; the next, they are cantering through the immense open landscapes of Cotopaxi National Park beneath one of the world’s highest active volcanoes.
What makes the experience memorable, however, is not only the scenery.
It is the feeling of being looked after completely while still experiencing something genuinely adventurous and deeply authentic. Horses are fit and carefully trained for the terrain, saddles are chosen for long hours of comfortable riding and each hacienda along the route offers its own atmosphere, history and understated elegance.
