A little something extra for a happy tummy 🐾💚

Kefir is a natural source of probiotics and can be a great little addition to your dog’s diet, as it may help support a healthy gut and digestion.

Of course, I only give small amounts — Cia gets hers as little frozen kefir cubes 🧊🐶

You can also blend kefir with berries such as blueberries 🫐, or cook a little pumpkin or broccoli, blend it in and freeze the mixture in small portions.

Simple, tasty and an easy way to add a little variety 💚

What a special Saturday 💙

Louise and I both feel incredibly lucky. Getting the chance to see two of Cia’s wonderful boys again made today extra special.

Today was our Staby meetup in Hareskoven, with no fewer than 17 Stabyhouns joining us. And among them were two very familiar faces: Hugo and Noah (birth name Thomas) 💙

I have to admit, when Noah was the first one to arrive, I got a little emotional. Seeing him again was just… wow. So much fun, and such a special feeling seeing one of “our” boys all grown up.

It was also very clear that Cia’s role as a mum is officially over and out 😂 She was exactly as she always is when there are lots of dogs around – completely calm, staying close by my side and simply observing everything.

Hugo and Noah got to play together. Did they remember each other? Who knows… but I like to think that maybe, somewhere in there, they did. 💙

There were plenty of other youngsters too, including three boys from a litter born only a few days after Cia’s boys, so there was definitely lots of young Staby energy in the forest today.

Now we’re really looking forward to arranging a day where all five brothers can hopefully meet again together with Cia at our place.

Cia and I have started testing a few search exercises in the garden. 🐾

I’m keeping it as simple as possible because the goal is to transition from food indications to blood indications, so it’ll be much easier for me to clearly see when she has found blood on a track.

Right now we’re using small pieces of Lamb sausage so she can fully understand the concept first: systematic searching → find the target → give a clear indication.

The only thing I’m still undecided about is how I want her to indicate it.

A sit indication would always be crystal clear. A freeze indication looks really cool, but it can easily become a bit sloppy if the dog doesn’t hold it long enough.

We’re only at the beginning, so now is the time to build the foundation properly. 💪

Yesterday, while cleaning the house, I found these tiny collars… 🥹💙

Oh, the memories. My phone is filled with photos and little moments from those precious weeks—memories we will carry with us forever.

At the same time, it somehow feels like such a long time ago. And guess what? Today, the five beautiful boys are already 5 months old! How did that happen? 🥹

This Saturday, there is a Staby meetup in Hareskoven. Everyone is welcome—whether you already share your life with a Staby or simply want to come and meet this wonderful breed.

And the very best part? We might even be lucky that a couple of the boys will come to the meetup… 🥹😍💙

I want Cia to keep an eye on me when we walk, and I also encourage voluntary check-ins — something she is actually very good at.

Unless, of course, she decides to go on one of her little independent hunting adventures, which I have written about before. 🫣

Here, we were walking off-leash on a quiet trail with no one else around. There were lots of exciting scents, and Cia stopped and completely ignored me when I called her name. I didn’t have my whistle with me, so I decided to turn the situation into a little training exercise.

When she was younger, I sometimes did the same exercise, although I would never wait quite as long as I do now.

And just to be clear: I know Cia well, I make sure she doesn’t feel unsafe, and I always check that there are no other dogs or people nearby. 😊

This is Cia on a evening walk being totally absorbed. Nice word I I used, right 😂
As mentioned in the reel, I would normally take her in short line and choose another way.
But look at her.. 😂🫣

That’s a reason why gundogtraining is always a good thing when you own a hunting breed — even if you never intend to actually hunt with your dog.

The hunting instinct is already there. It can be triggered by a scent, movement, wildlife or simply an exciting environment. You don’t have to hunt for your dog to discover those instincts.

Gundogtraining is therefore not necessarily about teaching a dog to hunt. It is about learning how to understand, guide and work together with the instincts your dog already has.
