New: Coat colour variant white gloves for Birman Cats 🧬

The characteristic white “gloves” of the Birman are among the most distinctive features of this breed. They are caused by a variant in the KIT gene, which is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner.

With our new genetic test for the White Gloves variant, breeders can plan matings more effectively and better assess the inheritance of the characteristic glove pattern.

Interestingly, the variant has also been identified in other breeds such as the Ragdoll, although it does not appear to be associated with white paws in these cats.

Now newly available at LABOKLIN!

Single test, breed-specific test combination or screening? The right test format for every question 🧬

In addition to comprehensive screenings such as LABOGenetics XXL for dogs and cats, we also offer breed-specific test combinations as well as nearly all genetic tests as single test.

Single tests are particularly suitable:
• for targeted questions or the investigation of specific hereditary diseases or coat traits
• for symptomatic animals or newly available genetic tests
• when fast results at attractive prices are required
• if applicable, also possible using previously stored sample material

⏱️ Thanks to continuous test optimisation, turnaround times are noticeably reduced. Results are therefore available even faster, for example for clopidogrel response (cat) or MDR1, CEA and prcd-PRA (dog).

NEW: Intestinal Lipid Malabsorption (ILM) in the Australian Kelpie

️ Intestinal lipid malabsorption is a hereditary metabolic disorder in the Australian Kelpie in which the absorption and processing of dietary fats are impaired.

Typical symptoms from an early age:
• poor growth, significantly smaller body size than littermates
• greasy, pale yellow faeces
• rough, wiry coat
• generally poor body condition
• intolerance to high-fat diets

🧬 Genetic testing is especially essential for breeders to identify carriers and enable responsible breeding decisions.

Disasters, difficulties and setbacks: Urothelial Neoplasia

A young terrier with seemingly harmless bladder lesion – surely this is nothing serious. Another dog has a haematuriea and thickened bladder wall – suspects cancer. Yet both cases turned out very differently and could perhaps have been anticipated.

We explore how to avoid common diagnostic traps, what the BRAF mutation test really tells us, and how to deal with unexpected results. Our guest, Dr Katrin Törner, shares her expertise on bladder tumours and practical tips for guiding patients to the right diagnosis.
