People ask me all the time: "How long does it take to bathe a Newfoundland?"

The honest answer? A minimum of three hours. Per dog.

Two shampoo rounds because the double coat repels water — it takes that long just to get them properly wet. A tub built into the wall because no regular bathtub fits a 150-pound dog. A professional force dryer running for over an hour. Patience that most people simply don't have.

This is one of the reasons Newfoundlands cost what they cost. Nobody tells you about the water bill, the electricity bill, the time you'll never get back. And nobody tells you it's worth every single minute when you see that black coat shine.
