It’s important that everyone in the household who interacts with the dog, attends the training sessions so that all humans can use the same verbal and body language when communicating with the dog. It’s great when the whole family shows up 😁

This is Max, a 3 month Rhodesian ridgeback learning puppy basics with the whole family. Here we are teaching him to reflexively turn & recall on a flexi/retractable leash.

This is Toby, a cute 3 month old puppy who is learning how to communicate and bond with her mom who is in a wheelchair. Here we are teaching Roxanne to use a reward marker properly, and reward Toby for eye contact on the left side of the wheelchair instead of the front or the back.

When it comes to dog-dog meetings, I advise only to allow your dog to meet another dog when they are at a 3/10 or below on the arousal/excitement scale. The greeting is more likely to go well when the dogs are already calm in each other’s presence, and it also reduces the mental shortcut of over-arousal associated with meeting new dogs.

This is Pikachu- an 11 month old Malinois who is can be fear reactive and a frustrated greeter to other dogs. She came to me with poor emotional regulation and an exhausted human at the end of her ropes. This is Pica on our first session when she first saw the helper dogs. Over the next few posts you’ll see how her nervous system and emotional regulation improves with some guidance ✨ 💪
