**💓 Lulu gets her happy ending!**

Remember Lulu, the howler monkey who was electrocuted? She was so distressed being in a kennel that she didn't even want to eat after we moved her to an outdoor enclosure.

Well, we have wonderful news! ✨ Lulu responded beautifully to treatment and was successfully released into a beautiful mango tree right beside her troop. 🌿🐒

Thank you, Lulu, for reminding us that wild animals belong in the wild whenever possible. And thank you for trusting us, even when we know that trust was incredibly hard to give. Because, honestly, humans don't always deserve it—and you deserved so much better than this.

In the name of love, we worked tirelessly to give you a second chance. And in the name of love, we will continue fighting to protect your habitat, insulate dangerous electrical lines, and create a safer future for howler monkeys.

We do this in honor of all your brothers and sisters who were not as fortunate and lost their lives to the tragedy of electrocution. 💔

Run free, Lulu. Your home has always been the forest. 🤍🌳

¡Corre libre, Lulu! Tu lugar siempre fue el bosque. 🤍🌳

Watching Lulu's response to being in a recovery enclosure reminded us why wild animals belong in the wild. They are not pets, and they don't thrive in cages or small enclosures—even when those spaces are meant to help them heal.

Wild animals can become stressed, depressed, and stop eating or drinking when they're removed from their natural environment.

That's why our mission has always been simple: **Rescue. Rehabilitate. Release.**

Lulu reminded us just how sensitive wildlife truly is. Once she recovered from the initial shock and trauma of her electrocution, she was medically stable—but she still refused to eat or drink. She was frightened, confused, and simply didn't understand why she was with us.

After 48 hours of patience, quiet care, and earning her trust, Lulu finally accepted a few bites of mango. 🥭

This video captures that beautiful moment when she realized we were there to help, not to hurt her.

For us, it wasn't just a piece of fruit—it was a sign of hope, trust, and the first step toward returning her to the place where she truly belongs: the wild. 🤍🌿

✨ Every so often, wildlife rehabilitation gives us a miracle.
This is ours.
When this young mona congo arrived at our rescue center after suffering a severe electrocution, we feared the worst. We have seen far too many animals injured by power lines, and sadly, many never get the second chance they deserve.
But she had other plans.
Through intensive medical care, rehabilitation, and a lot of determination, she slowly regained her strength. Day by day, she reminded us why we never give up.
We named her Milagro which is Miracle in Spanish.
Today, we are thrilled to share that Milagro has been successfully released back into the wild where she belongs.
Her story is a reminder that hope is powerful, every life matters, and miracles do happen.
To our supporters, donors, volunteers, and everyone who believes in this work—thank you. Because of you, animals like Milagro get a second chance at life.
Today, Milagro is back where she belongs—free among the trees of Costa Rica. ❤️🐒🌿

Rehabilitated monkey released back into the wild

A hopeful update on our electrocuted howler monkey ❤️

After 48 hours of critical care, this sweet girl was up, alert, and stable today. While being closely monitored following the removal of her IV, we offered her some fresh mango—and she eagerly gobbled it up! 🥭🐒

Seeing her eating, moving around, and showing interest in her surroundings is incredibly encouraging. Electrocution injuries can be unpredictable, but so far she continues to exceed our expectations. If she continues progressing this well, we are hopeful she may be ready to return to the wild very soon.

Thank you to everyone who has been keeping her in your thoughts and prayers. Your support means so much to our team and to the animals fighting for a second chance. 🙏

Last night, we received an emergency call about an electrocuted howler monkey.

Sadly, we've received enough of these calls that we now feel that sinking feeling in our stomachs before we even arrive. Too often, these stories don't have a happy ending.

Still, our team responded with hope.

This beautiful monkey was brought to our rescue center and immediately placed under intensive care. She is receiving IV fluids, pain management, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring.

Electrocution injuries can be devastating, and the road ahead is uncertain. But for now, she is resting comfortably, and we remain hopeful that she will be one of the few lucky survivors of this preventable tragedy.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she fights to recover. 🙏🫶

Every life matters.

———

Cada vida importa.

💔 Electrocutions remain one of the leading human-caused threats facing howler monkeys in Costa Rica. Together, we can do better.

💛 A second chance starts with a single life.

This tiny dove chick arrived this afternoon at Sol Sanctuary after the tree holding its nest was cut down. During the removal, the nest was displaced and this little one lost the protection and care of its parents before it was ready to survive on its own.

At this age, nestlings are completely dependent on their parents for warmth, food, and safety. Without intervention, many orphaned chicks like this never get the opportunity to grow up.

Our wildlife rehabilitation team is now providing around-the-clock care, specialized feeding, and monitoring to give this baby the best possible chance of returning to the wild where it belongs.

As development continues throughout Costa Rica, situations like this remind us how important it is to check trees carefully before trimming or removing them, especially during nesting season. A single tree can be home to an entire family.

Please remember: if you find a baby bird, do not assume it has been abandoned. Contact a licensed wildlife rescue center for guidance before intervening.

We’re rooting for this little survivor every step of the way. 💚🐦

Trigger warning: 🐍Wildlife rescue isn't always cute baby animals. Sometimes it's a very large and aggressive Boa that needs some TLC for their injuries. Thankfully our team at was up for the challenge. How do you feel about the sound she makes?
