🐾 Happy Hound des Monats 🐾

Ich starte ein neues Format: Jeden Monat möchte ich euch hier einen Hund vorstellen. 🐶

Als einjährige Broholmer Hündin ist Nova total verspielt und hat im Training schon ganz viele tolle Sache gemeistert, wie zum Beispiel das "Aus" und Maulkorbtraining. 🎓

Momentan üben wir entspannte Stadtausflüge, damit Nova auch ihre Menschen zur Arbeit begleiten kann.🏙🐕

Es macht mir immer viel Freude, mit Nova zu trainieren und zu sehen, wie sie sich weiterentwickelt!

Having a dog and child hasn't always been everything I thought it would be, but all of our hard work is paying off! Zuko now actively seeks affection from my daughter and nothing makes me happier than seeing them interacting safely with each other 🥰

Everyone wants their child and dog to be best friends, and in an ideal world, I would love this too. However, the reality is that children are at a higher risk of being bitten by a dog than any other demographic. Their unpredictable behavior, lack of impulse control, and inability to read a dog's body language can lead to some overwhelming situations for the dog. This is why it's so important for kids to learn to respect a dog's boundaries. This means:

🐾 Respecting a dog's wishes for space or alone time.
🐾 Not touching a dog's personal items like beds and toys - especially while the dog is using it!
🐾 Not touching a dog's food, bowls, or interacting with them while eating.

One of our favorite things to do with our toddler and Zuko is to allow her to give him a chew stick. We first ask Zuko to sit while we give our toddler the chew stick. Then she lays it on the floor in front of him so he can take it (Zuko isn't always gentle when taking food so we are teaching her to feed him by putting the food on the floor). While he eats it, we practice sitting and watching him calmly (no touching or petting!). She absolutely loves this, and both of them look forward to it every day. And nothing makes me happier than hearing her say "Look, Zuko's happy now!" 😊

Walking with a stroller can add a lot of stress to both you and your dog. For our dogs, it means they have less freedom of movement (depending on where you live and how stroller friendly it is), and that their walk is often interrupted or even cut short by the baby's needs. Practicing walks with a stroller before baby arrives, as well as giving your dog as much freedom as possible with and without the stroller helps to manage everyone's expectations and alleviate stress once the baby arrives.

Easter is almost here which means lots of tasty treats for us humans. Please be wary with sweets and dogs as many sweets contain xylitol or birch sugar which is extremely toxic to dogs even in small quantities. Be sure to keep sweets out of reach of dogs and to not let children eat sweets around dogs since they may easily drop them.
