Nova Scotia SPCA - Yarmouth Shelter

Nova Scotia SPCA - Yarmouth Shelter Rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming pets in need thanks to animal-lovers like you. We take in animals by appointment only so please call ahead. We can help.

The Nova Scotia SPCA accepts animals into its care regardless of their age or health. We also follow no-kill principles which means we do not euthanize animals for space. Unexpected life situations happen and the SPCA strives to be approachable, non-judgemental and understanding. On average, healthy and friendly animals are adopted into loving families in less than two weeks! You simply have to ca

ll and arrange an appointment so the shelter can learn about what is the most suitable type of home for your pet. The appointment also allows the shelter to prepare a cozy space for your pet to make the transition as smooth as possible. We understand how difficult it is to surrender a pet and thank all owners who are able to make the best decision for their pet.

In November 2024, Windsor was surrendered to the Dartmouth Shelter. The ten-year-old Border Collie was scared and was also managing a heart murmur, osteoarthritis that would require lifelong medication, and a stubborn ear issue that needed ongoing care. ๐Ÿ’” Helping Windsor feel safe would prove to be slow progress. But the right people at the right time showed Windsor how to trust again. โœจ

What time is it? Time for a foster feature for National Foster a Pet Month, of course! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Today, weโ€™re giving a shoutout to the pawsome Michelle Churchill! When we asked Michelle why she fosters, her response made us tear up. Good tears! ๐Ÿฅน

โ€œI feel very fortunate to be able to foster - I love being able to provide a place where an animal feels safe and loved. Every foster is a new experience, and I thoroughly enjoy learning and developing new skills needed to provide the best care possible for them. The best part is knowing I am helping them to get ready so they can find their forever home. I love working with the team at the Yarmouth Animal Shelter. They are my support system and we have developed quite a bond. They make the fostering experience a wonderful journey.โ€

Tens across the board for Michelle! Thank you for being such a support for our furry friends and for all of our staff! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Please help us show our gratitude by leaving paw prints in the comments! ๐Ÿพ

If this feature inspired you or made you curious about being a foster, weโ€™re always looking for pawsome fosters. You can find more information, and apply, at www.novascotiaspca.ca/foster. โฌ…

Chester came to the Nova Scotia SPCA as a stray at the end of 2023. ๐Ÿ˜ฟ When they first met him months later, his adopters were so captivated by his affectionate personality that they didn't realize Chester was actually missing a leg until he stood up. But that didnโ€™t deter them from giving Chester the home and family he needed. ๐Ÿซถ

With these skyrocketing temperatures, please keep your pet safe and cool inside at home. High temperatures make it difficult for pets to cool themselves and heatstroke can be fatal. ๐Ÿ’” On top of potentially losing your furry bestie, you could be fined $697.50.

Did you know June is National Foster a Pet Month? ๐Ÿค—

Pets deserve a safe space to become their best selves, and foster homes and families provide just that and more. Our fosters are essential because:

๐Ÿ’™ They offer love, care, socialization, and a safe space to pets

๐Ÿ’™ They help shelters learn more about a petโ€™s true personality so staff can find their perfect families

Fostering is a rewarding experience for both the pet and the hooman. We donโ€™t have enough words to thank all of our fosters for the incredible job they do! ๐Ÿฅฐ

We will be highlighting some of our amazing fosters throughout the month, so stay tuned for some heartwarming and inspiring stories. ๐Ÿฅน

If you ever thought about fostering but werenโ€™t sure where to start, you can visit www.novascotiaspca.ca/foster for more information. โฌ…
