ACCR came in existence through my role as Animal Control By-Law Officer. The pound was seen by many as a animal shelter, and as there were no local animals shelters the pound morphed into a shelter. Because some of the dogs that came my way suffered from behavioural problems I used my pack of dogs and my way of training to turn them around so that they were suitable for adoption. I have never come

across a 'bad' dog, but i have seen so many bad owners who's inability to understand the rudiments of dog training led to dogs becoming out of control. I live and work with the dogs so that they may find a better home and life. Two special people help with fundraising and we accept donations with open arms. We are a non profit animal shelter who work 24/7 helping dogs and cats find a better life. We rehabilitate dogs and try our best to furnish you with the dog that best suits your lifestyle. The Town ByLaw states that cats should not wander for many reasons. There is another reason owners of cats should be aware of. Read this news clip from CTV News. It's a sobering read and a reminder why cats shouldn't roam.

The Government of Saskatchewan says a house cat in the province’s southeast has died after contracting highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

After reportedly seeming normal on the morning of April 20, 2026, the cat suddenly became “severely ill” with sudden neurological and respiratory signs. According to the province, the cat was known to spend time outdoors which increased its chance of exposure to wild birds. Don't forget these viruses can jump to humans.
