Judy, born in China and originally named Shudi: she was an official Prisoner of War and perhaps the most famous English Pointer of all time. She received the Dickin Medal for Gallantry for saving her human friends lives over and over again.

Many people don’t know about the RCMP systematically slaughtering working dogs in Canada’s North. These dogs were pets and beloved family members, but more importantly they were guides, haulers, watchdogs, and equal partners in the rigorous task of simply surviving in a brutally cold climate. On the orders of the Canadian government, many thousands of these vital Qimmiq were shot - often in front of the whole family. If you didn’t know, now you do.

Having lost a few beloved dogs myself over the years, I can speak to the pain and anguish that never really leaves you. You are forever changed when you lose a dog. To lose one violently?… I cannot even imagine.
