These dogs were pets and beloved family members, but more importantly they were guides, haulers, watchdogs, and equal partners in the rigorous task of simply surviving in a brutally cold climate. On the orders of the Canadian government, many thousands of these vital Qimmiq were shot - often in front of the whole family. If you didn’t know, now you do.

Having lost a few beloved dogs myself over the years, I can speak to the pain and anguish that never really leaves you. You are forever changed when you lose a dog. To lose one violently?… I cannot even imagine.
