Yesterday, we were thrilled to welcome VIP guests to the eleventh annual Wildest Dreams event at the Zoo!

Wildest Dreams is a very special event that provides a once-in-a-lifetime Zoo experience for children and families facing health and/or socio-economic challenges.

Each year, we work with community organizations to welcome guests to enjoy activities and entertainment including animal encounters and zoo chats, a dance party, mascots and characters, interpretive stations, face painting, and of course, tons of fun!

It is a truly memorable, joyful, and uplifting experience for everyone involved.

Wildest Dreams is made possible thanks to our presenting partner, Maple Leaf Construction, our supporting partners, TC Energy, Payworks, and Prairie Mobile Communications, and numerous organizations that provide in-kind products and services. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.

We are so excited for you to meet Lumi. ❤️🐾

Today, after a long journey of recovery, Lumi moved into her new habitat at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Premier Wab Kinew, pictured alongside Ray Karasevich, President & CEO of Assiniboine Park Conservancy, first joined the Wildlife Haven team for Lumi’s transfer to the Zoo in March and returned this morning to help move her into the habitat.

Lumi’s story is one of resilience and hope. In 2025, she was rescued by Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, injured and orphaned after her mother was killed by a dog. At Wildlife Haven, she received intensive care with the hope of one day releasing her back into the wild. Following extensive veterinary assessments, it was determined that Lumi could not be released due to eye injuries and a seizure disorder requiring lifelong treatment.

After months of care and rehabilitation, Lumi began a new chapter at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Here, dedicated veterinary and animal care teams provide the daily support she needs to thrive.

Her seizure disorder is managed with medication, and her eye condition is carefully monitored through non-invasive positive reinforcement training with ongoing input from a veterinary ophthalmologist.

Now, Lumi will serve as an ambassador for her wild counterparts at the Zoo. When you visit Lumi, we hope your connection to this incredible Canadian species grows and inspires you to protect our local wildlife and ecosystems.

Thank you to everyone who has been involved in Lumi’s care and recovery. Your dedication has given this little lynx a second chance at life. Thank you to everyone who has loved and supported Lumi from a distance through encouragement, kind words, and donations.

You can now visit Lumi at the Assiniboine Park Zoo daily, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

One year ago today, the Wildlife Rescue and Drop-off Centre at Assiniboine Park Zoo opened its doors!

This facility was created through a partnership between Assiniboine Park Conservancy and Wildlife Haven, united in their commitment to conserving wildlife and natural habitats within Manitoba. Here, members of the public can drop off sick or injured wildlife to receive temporary care before being transferred to Wildlife Haven’s facilities in Ile des Chênes.

In just one year, the drop-off centre has taken in over 315 animals, including rabbits, birds, and more. We're proud to play a meaningful role in supporting wildlife in our community.

None of this would be possible without caring community members finding animals in need and our incredible volunteers. Thank you to the 29 volunteers specifically trained to accept injured and orphaned animals from the community and the 18 volunteers who help transport animals needing further care to Wildlife Haven.

➡️ Swipe through to see a few of the animals that were dropped off this year.

☎️ Found an injured or orphaned animal? Call Wildlife Haven first at 204-202-3806, available daily 8:00 am – 8:00 pm for guidance on next steps.

📍 The Wildlife Rescue and Drop-off Centre at Assiniboine Park Zoo is open daily 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, located on the west side of the Zoo parking lot.
