Gone, but not forgotten. 11-08-06

A few years ago, we drove from our home in Winnipeg to South Sioux City, Nebraska, to see this beautiful monument for fallen Navy SEAL, John Douangdara and his MWD, Bart.

John and Bart were killed during a military operation on August 6th, 2011 when the Chinook Helicopter they were being transported on was shot down by insurgents in Afghanistan. It killed all 38 passengers on board, including John and Bart. It was the greatest single-incident loss of life during the war.

Seeing this monument, built in his home town, was a powerful experience because it showed the relationship between John and Bart perfectly. The two are kneeling, with John’s hand resting on Bart’s back.

To us, John was a friend. He was someone who was inherently kind and humble, and he always gave everything he had into being the best person and dog handler he could be.

Visiting his memorial was what I would classify as a perfect day. It felt like the sun was shining down on the monument from their place in heaven. It was hard not to feel emotional reading the placard and seeing the tributes left behind by family and friends. We added a small token too. It’s something that was inspired by conversations with John that helps protect working dogs to this very day.

BREAKING: PSD Andii is SHOT & SAVED in her K9 Storm Patrol Swat Vest!!

In April 2025, PSD Andii ( ) from the Rockford Police Department in Illinois, was involved in a serious incident. While responding to a routine traffic stop, a pulled over felon fled from the scene. Andii was deployed immediately to subdue him, at which point she was targeted and shot at multiple times.

Andii was struck twice during the shootout.

One bullet tore through a digit on her foot. The other slammed directly into her shoulder.

It was widely reported that her K9 Storm Patrol Swat Vest was successful in catching that round.

Bleeding profusely from her paw, Andii was taken immediately to Dogwood Pet Hospital , where she underwent emergency surgery. She ultimately lost the toe that was directly hit by the bullet, but the veterinarian team was astounded by the minimal impact to her body.

Through this, they decided to make an even bigger difference in their community by raising funds to support 7 additional police dogs with donations for their own K9 Storm Vests. This was all made possible by the efforts of Sarah Robbins and the entire Dogwood Pet Hospital team.

We had the privilege of sizing these amazing dogs in person last year and even had a chance to meet Andii and her handler, Ofc. Fisher at the event. Andii’s K9 Storm Vest was provided by Friends of Rockford Police K9

Andii has since retired from active duty, but her impact on the community has been far reaching.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have helped her, and other dogs in the Rockford area, do their jobs and come home safely.

A few weeks ago, we visited the Maui Police K9 Unit in Hawaii. These guys were top notch professionals through and through, and welcomed us to their kennel with open arms.

Having recently received their K9 Storm Aerial Insertion Vests, courtesy of , their dogs “Maka Ihe” (black vest) and “Ku Makani” (OD vest) did some Intruder training. It was a major highlight seeing their dogs in action and learning more about their tactics and experience on the island.

Happy to have had a chance to personally sized these dogs in Rochester a few weeks ago. Great group of handlers, and we're grateful for the opportunity to protect their dogs.

This is K9 Storm Puppy Program Graduate, Fionn, from Australia. Fionn joined our Puppy Program back in 2023 and has since grown a ton!

A graduate in 2025, we recently heard good news that he completed his yearly certifications. His handler sent us this photo, and like any good Alma Mater, we decided, without haste, to shamelessly showcase our successful grad 🙃
