Let's talk RALLY CUES
👉 Cues are the signals we give to our dog to communicate the behaviour we expect next. In rally, we use a lot of physical cues, but verbal cues and feedback are also commonly used, sometimes in conjunction with physical cues.

🚶‍♂️‍➡️Our movement plays a big role. The length of our stride, our pace, and the position of our shoulders. Suttle changes in movement provide very important information to our dog. I like to practice without my dog first to improve my consistency and the clarity of my cues.

You can choose any cues that suite you, but make sure you are consistent!! Below you will find my cue list for rally.

It's best to think about and decide on cues BEFORE you start training. I have chosen my cues very carefully because I do compete in multiple sports with my dogs. If you do too, be very mindful about your cues to avoid confusing your dog. Cues should be distinct and used consistently.

We wrapped up the last day at BarkFest The Ultimutt Dog Party. Thank you to Manitoba Working & Herding Association for organizing another Meet the Breeds event. Rev and JJ had a great time meeting and greeting visitors and some of the amazing vendors.

Rev, JJ, and I will be back tomorrow from 1:30-5:00pm. Stop by and say "Hi"! There is also a HUGE vendor market where you will find some unique, hand made products.

The CKC and other organizations offer sports that encourage our dogs to use their instincts. JJ and I recently tried herding for the first time. Will this become a new sport for us? Not sure, but it sure was fun! It was amazing to watch her think about how her movement influenced the sheep.

There are many other ways to get yourself and your dog involved in instinct based sports, like sprinter, lure coursing, barn hunt, hunt and earth dog tests, and many more.

What will you explore next?

09/05/2026

There's an exciting opportunity coming in 2027 for Owner Handlers!! The CKC will be introducing a Canadian National Owner-Handled Series at no additional charge beyond your show entry.
