☀️ Another hot one today in Winnipeg! ☀️
As temperatures climb, our furry friends are at risk of heat stroke, which can become a life-threatening emergency very quickly.
🐾 Watch for signs such as:
• Excessive panting
• Thick drooling
• Bright red gums or tongue
• Weakness or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Rapid heartbeat
• Disorientation or restlessness
🚨 If you suspect heat stroke:
✔️ Move your dog to a cool, shaded area
✔️ Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water
✔️ Use cool, wet towels on the paws, belly, neck, and armpits
✔️ Contact your veterinarian immediately
🌡️ Prevention is key:
• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
• Always provide access to fresh water and shade
• Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle — not even for a few minutes
• Take frequent breaks during outdoor activities
A reminder that pavement can become dangerously hot as well. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.
❤️ Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy the sunshine responsibly.
