A new school year brings new opportunities to inspire curiosity.
This fall, we're excited to introduce our Classroom Critters Program, designed to help teachers, homeschool families, daycares, libraries, and community organizations bring hands-on animal education into their learning spaces.
Whether it's watching a gecko explore its habitat, caring for a classroom fish, or discovering the fascinating adaptations of a stick insect, these everyday experiences help transform science into something children can see, ask questions about, and remember.
If you've been looking for a way to make learning more engaging and memorable, we'd love to help you find the right classroom animal and provide the guidance you need to make it a success.

🐍 NEW FALL ANIMAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT EXOTIC AQUATICS

If you have a kid who loves animals, asks a million questions, or learns best when they can actually see and experience what they're learning, we have two new programs launching this fall!

CLASSROOM CRITTERS | $399 + $100 refundable deposit

Bring a living learning experience into your classroom or homeschool environment for three months.

Choose from a Crested Gecko, Leopard Gecko, Ball Python, or Pacman Frog. Your program includes the animal, habitat and setup, species-specific care guide, first month of food, and support from Exotic Aquatics.

At the three-month mark, you can return your Classroom Critter and receive your $100 deposit back, or choose to keep your new classroom resident without your deposit returned.

Registration deadline: **September 7**
Pickup: September 21–25

KIDS WILDLIFE KEEPERS CLUB | $75

Four months of hands-on animal learning for kids ages 6+!

Once a month from September through December, kids will explore:

🦎 Reptiles
🐠 Fish & aquatic life
🕷️ Invertebrates
🌿 Habitats & animal care

Each class includes learning, real animal experiences, supervised handling when appropriate, an in-class project or craft, and an at-home Keeper Mission.

Classes are kept SMALL with only 5 kids per group.

Monday | 5:00–6:00 PM
Tuesday | 9:00–10:00 AM

A parent or guardian must remain present during class.

Registration is $75 per child for the full four-month program, paid upfront. Only 10 spaces are available.

Registration closes September 12.

The natural world has a way of slowing us down.
Watching fish glide through an aquarium, observing a gecko explore its habitat, or seeing a frog emerge from its hiding place reminds us to be curious, patient, and present. For children especially, these moments become opportunities to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop a genuine appreciation for the living world around them.
In a time when so much learning happens through screens, there is something incredibly valuable about experiencing nature firsthand. It encourages observation, sparks imagination, and creates memories that last far beyond the classroom.

Myth or Fact? Let's put a few animal misconceptions to the test.

Myth: Snakes are slimy.
Fact: Snakes are actually dry and smooth to the touch. Their scales are made of keratin, the same material found in our fingernails and hair.

Myth: Geckos are aggressive and bite.
Fact: Leopard geckos are known for their gentle temperament and are often one of the best reptiles for beginners when handled with care.

Myth: Fish don't recognize people.
Fact: Many fish learn to recognize the people who care for them and will often swim to the front of the aquarium when they see a familiar face.

One of the best parts of what we do is helping people replace fear and misconceptions with understanding. The more we learn about these incredible animals, the more fascinating they become.

Not every classroom is the same, and not every classroom pet should be either.
Some animals are perfect for quiet observation, while others encourage hands-on learning and spark endless questions. The right classroom companion depends on the age of the students, the learning goals, and the environment.
A colourful betta can introduce students to aquatic ecosystems and daily care routines. A leopard gecko offers opportunities to learn about reptiles, habitats, and adaptations. Stick insects are incredible examples of camouflage and life cycles, while frogs open the door to conversations about amphibians, ecosystems, and environmental change.
