Well folks… the Whack-A-Mole pups absolutely CRUSHED it 🧀💥🐾

What started as a silly little game involving dogs, cheese, hot dogs, and a suspicious cardboard box turned into something truly incredible.

Thanks to all of our amazing clients who signed their dogs up to play, Whack-A-Mole raised $625 for the Lions Foundation Walk for Guide Dogs! 🐕‍🦺💙

But wait… there’s more cheese! 🧀😎

Forever Pawsitive K9 Academy also donated $2 for every K9 Forest School attendance during the month of May, bringing our grand total donation to an incredible:

We are so grateful to everyone who participated, cheered on their dogs, shared videos, laughed at the chaos, and supported this fundraiser. Whether your dog was a fearless mole hunter, a cautious investigator, a professional cheese thief, or simply there for the snacks, every participant helped make a difference.

This fundraiser proved that when our community comes together, grate things happen. (Sorry. We had to sneak in at least one cheese pun. 🧀😂)

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us support such an amazing cause. We are incredibly proud of this wonderful community of dogs and humans. 💙🐾

Tonight I ended up trying to help a friend whose puppy ate a kid's vitamin containing xylitol. Simple accident: kid dropped vitamin, puppy scarfed it down. (Note: this household is knowledgeable and is xylitol free, but a relative bought the vitamins, unaware of the risk to the dogs.)

The puppy only ate *one* vitamin. Which turned out to contain 1500 mg of xylitol.

100 mg/kg is the threshold for hypoglycemia which can be fatal. At 500 mg/kg, hepatic necrosis occurs -- destruction of liver tissue.

So just ONE chewable vitamin ended up creating a serious problem for a 30 pound pup (which is not quite 14 kg).

The emergency vet induced vomiting. Thankfully, the puppy had had a meal and so there was food in her stomach. In the vomit was the orange tablet, identifiable though dissolved.

Quick thinking on the owner's part (including grabbing the bottle of vitamins) and fortunately a nearby 24/7 emergency vet hospital meant that this pup received prompt treatment, and should make a full recovery.

Check your medications, vitamins, gum, candy, toothpaste, mouthwash, peanut butter and more for xylitol, also known as birch sugar.

Rafferty stepped up to the Whack-A-Mole box and immediately understood the assignment 🌭🐾😎

No hesitation. No confusion. No lengthy investigation required 😂

This girl took to the game like a natural, quickly figuring out where the goodies were coming from and getting right down to business 💥

Confident, enthusiastic, and clearly very pleased with the hot dog situation, Rafferty made the whole thing look easy 🌭✨

Some dogs need a few practice rounds… and then there are dogs like Rafferty who show up and say, “Don’t worry everyone, I’ve got this.” 😏🐾

Everyone has heard the rule of dog years to human years that tells us that one year of a dog's life is equal to seven years of a human life, but is that accurate?

Kind of....

There ARE variations in how the dog to human years ratio works, and most of them have to do with either the size or the breed of the dog.

Dogs age differently than humans — and similarly, medium and large dogs grow differently than small dogs. In most instances, the smaller dog is expected to have the longer life expectancy, but breed and genetics come into play as well. For example, even if a larger dog lives as long as a small or medium-sized dog, they will spend more years of their life in the geriatric phase than their smaller counterparts.

Sports Sampler class wrapped up this week and WOW did these dogs have fun 🐾✨

Over the last several weeks our teams explored a variety of dog sports foundations, confidence-building games, body awareness exercises, problem solving skills, and plenty of opportunities to try something new!

One of the best parts of Sports Sampler is watching dogs discover what they love — whether that’s climbing, jumping, targeting, scent work, movement games, or simply gaining confidence while working alongside their humans 💛

Every dog learns differently, and this class is all about building enthusiasm, teamwork, and joy through training.

We are so proud of all of our dogs and handlers for stepping outside their comfort zones, trying new things, and cheering each other on each week 🎉
