Meet Heather:

Heather is a born and raised Yukoner. She graduated from the Animal Health Techonology program in Fairview, Alberta in 2011 and has been working at All Paws Vet since 2013. She has special interests in Laboratory Procedures and Chemotherapy. In her spare time, she enjoys landscape and portrait photography and reading.

You may recognize Heather from the reception desk as she's been working in this position over the past several months. (Techs help in reception too!)

Laboratory Procedures: 🩸💩🔬

Lab samples can be anything from blood and urine to ear swabs and skin samples. This is a crucial role in diagnosing and providing care for your pet. Technicians are trained in all laboratory sampling procedures. This includes safely collecting and storing samples from many different species, some of which require very different collection methods. Technicians can take samples from horses, cattle, rabbits, reptiles, birds, goats and much more! 🐎🐮🐇🐍🐥

Technicians will also prepare samples that need further testing at specialist laboratories, ensuring that the sampling procedures are followed and the samples are shipped appropriately.

Meet Jaime:

Jaime has been a Registered Veterinary Technician for over 27 years. She has advanced credentials in anesthesia, pain management and canabanoid medicine. Jaime became a Certfied Pain Practitioner (CVPP) in 2015,
received her Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in anesthesia and analgesia in 2019 and became a Veterinary Cannabis Counsellor (VCC) in 2021.
Jaime is an educator and National speaker and author, as well as a founding member of The Canadian Association of Veterinary Cannabanoid Medicine (CAVCM) and the Canadian One Health Innitiative.

We are very lucky to have Jaime on staff and in the Yukon Territory.

Anesthesia and procedures:

When your pet comes in for surgery, the technician will intake your pet and go over procedure risks and benefits, as well as answering any questions you may have. They will collect and run any necessary pre-anesthetic labwork, then calculate and prepare your pet’s sedative and anesthesia medications. 🩸💊

They will place IV catheters, administer IV fluids, intubate and induce anesthesia. Ensuring your pets safety comes first, they monitor the pet closely while using monitoring equipment to read their Heart Rate, Respiratory Rate, Temperature, Oxygen levels and Blood Pressure throughout the procedure. They will observe, and make any interventions necessary to keep the pet stable and pain free. 🩺💉

Once the procedure is complete, they will monitor the pet through recovery, ensuring a smooth and calm wake-up. Technicians will go through discharge and homecare instructions to help support you and your pet. 🩹❤️

It's Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week ! 🐾🩺

Registered Veterinary Technicians work hard to assist the Veterinarians in providing the best care for your pet. If your pet was in for their annual check up, labwork appointment, diagnostic imaging, nail trim or surgery, they most likely had an encounter with a veterinary technician. But what do technicians really do?

This week, we will be posting one of our lovely technicians each day with some information about the instrumental work they do in the veterinary field and our clinic.

Found running along the South Access intersection, some kind citizens brought him to us! This sweet boy is safe at All Paws, but he is not microchipped. He is wearing a Game of Thrones collar. If he is yours he would like to go home, please call us at 867-667-7387

Please help us welcome Dr. Aiyana Warren to our team! Dr. Warren graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London and in 2019 and has spent time in both the UK and Alberta in mixed and equine practice. She is a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner and is Fear Free certified, aiming to make veterinary visits as calm and low-stress as possible, and helping animals lead more comfortable, active lives. Dr. Warren is very passionate about education,nutrition,and preventative medicine, and loves helping people better understand their animal, both large and small!

Outside of work Dr. Warren loves exploring the trails and back-country with her two dogs, Calla and Daisy. Calla only has 3 legs but that doesn’t slow her down! She is very excited to explore the Yukon and to get to know the wonderful community here!
