🐾💔 Some of you have met Hanna, my Australian Shepherd, or have seen her in photos and videos over the years.

Unfortunately, she's very sick right now. After a long day at the vet, she's been scheduled for emergency surgery tomorrow morning for a suspected pyometra, a potentially life-threatening infection.

I've started a GoFundMe to help with the unexpected veterinary expenses, and I'm reaching out to my dog-loving community for a little support.

If anyone is able to contribute or even just share her fundraiser, I would be incredibly grateful.

Thank you so much ❤️

Mylo 🤍 He and his newly adopted sister Scrump are new private lesson clients and I'm so happy that I can be there to help them with the transition. Mylo is genuinely one of the sweetest and cutest dogs I’ve ever met and he will definitely be featured again! (or kidnapped) 😱😍

A trained dog is not a dog who never notices distractions. They still still see them, but stay connected to you and keep moving without losing their mind.

Dakota saw the squirrel, thought about it… and chose to check back in instead. That’s the kind of real-life progress I love to see on walks.

If your dog pulls, fixates, lunges, or completely forgets you exist the second something interesting shows up, I can help 💕

A good walk doesn’t have to mean “heel” the entire time.

Rocky knows when he’s asked to heel, the job is to stay with his handler and move together.

Then comes the best part:
“Break.”
That means he’s free to sniff, explore and enjoy the walk.

I love teaching dogs the difference between structured walking and free time. It gives them clear expectations without taking the fun out of the walk.

And really, sniffing is half the point anyway!

Rocky putting in some work downtown Whitby
🐾❤️

We took his training out into the real world to practice his walking skills, staying calm, holding position and checking in with his handler with people, cars and plenty of distractions around.

It’s one thing to practice at home or somewhere quiet. Bringing those skills into busier environments is where they really start to become useful in everyday life.
And obviously we had to stop for a photo at the heart 🥹

Good boy, Rocky!

While these collars are crafted with high-quality, durable materials, they are intended for fashion use.

!! Not for Heavy Pullers: These collars are not recommended for dogs that pull heavily on a leash or for tie-out use.

!! Use Recommendations: For the safety of the pup, it is recommended to use these as "accessory" collars (to hold ID tags and look stylish!) while using a dedicated collar or harness for walks if the dog tends to pull.

Puppy handling is training, too!

Some puppies really struggle with being held, brushed, having their paws touched or getting their nails trimmed. Wiggling and mouthing can sometimes escalate into growling, snapping or biting.

This doesn’t automatically mean they’re a “bad” or aggressive puppy. Restraint can feel scary, frustrating or uncomfortable, especially when they haven’t learned what to expect.

Puppies also repeat behaviours that work. If struggling or biting makes the hands go away, they learn that escalating ends the handling. That pattern can quickly become stronger, which is why it’s important to start practising early.

A few simple tips:

• Practise for one or two minutes every day when your puppy is calm.

• Start small. Touch a paw and reward. Briefly hold it and reward. Introduce brushes and nail clippers gradually.

• Practise handling paws, ears, teeth, legs and tail.

• Keep your handling calm and steady. When it’s safe, avoid letting go during active struggling. Wait for a brief moment of calm, then release.

• Carpenter gloves can protect your hands from sharp puppy teeth and help you remain calm.

• Keep sessions short and successful. You don’t need to complete an entire nail trim at once.

If your puppy is growling, snapping or biting during handling, get help early. Sudden sensitivity should also be discussed with your veterinarian to rule out pain.

A little practice now can make grooming, vet visits and everyday care much easier later!
