Winter Grooming Tips: Keeping Your Petβs Coat Healthy.
As it gets colder, many of you want to keep your pets' hair longer for extra warmth. That is totally fine, but please keep in mind that longer fur needs a lot more work to stay healthy!
Waiting too long between grooming visits can lead to knots and matting, especially with all the moisture, dirt, and winter gear involved. If the coat gets too matted, it might have to be shaved shorter than you would like to keep your pet comfortable and safe.
To keep that long winter coat looking good, here is some advice:
* Keep up with your regular grooming appointments.
* Brush your pet thoroughly at home, making sure to reach all the way to the skin.
* Pay extra attention to trouble spots like behind the ears, armpits, legs, and private areas.
* Keep their coat clean and dry.
* Talk to your groomer about the length you want and what kind of upkeep it will take.
If you are worried about your dog shivering after a haircut, remember that shivering is usually just a reaction to the air temperature. Since most pets spend their time indoors, your homeβs temperature matters much more than the short time they spend outside. While a longer coat helps, it does not make them immune to the cold, so please limit their time outdoors during extreme weather.
Bottom line: a clean, mat-free coat is key to your pet's comfort and health. πΎ
