🏆💙❤️ Congratulations, Kitchener Rangers ! ❤️💙🏆

What a season. What a team. What a finish.

A huge congratulations to our hometown Kitchener Rangers on capturing not only the OHL Championship and the J. Ross Robertson Cup, but also bringing home the Memorial Cup! The Rangers capped off an incredible season with a dominant championship run and earned their place in the history books.

From all of us at Parkdale Animal Hospital, we're proud to cheer on such an amazing group of athletes, coaches, staff, and supporters who represent our community so well.

Now the only question is... how many dogs and cats in Kitchener are sporting Rangers bandanas or other gear? 🐶🐱🏒

One question we hear all the time is: "Why does my pet need to be seen before antibiotics can be prescribed?"

In this video, Dr. MacKay explains why an examination is so important before reaching for medication. We know it can sometimes be frustrating—or even difficult—to bring your pet in for an appointment, especially when you feel pretty sure you know what's going on. But there's a good reason we ask to see them first!

Our goal is always to make sure we're treating the right problem with the right medication. Not every condition requires antibiotics, and using them when they're not needed can sometimes do more harm than good. By examining your pet, we can ensure they get the care they need—and avoid treatments they don't.

Dr. Uyede recently had the opportunity to visit a local kindergarten class to talk all about what it’s like being a veterinarian! From helping sick pets feel better to teaching the kids how to care for animals, it was such a fun morning filled with great questions, big smiles, and lots of excitement about furry friends.

Who knows… maybe we met a few future veterinarians in the making! ❤️🐶🐱

🌸 Why Do Pets Shed More in Spring? 🌸

If it feels like your home suddenly has a layer of fur on everything… you’re not imagining it. Spring shedding is real!

As the days get longer and temperatures rise, your pet naturally starts to lose their thick winter coat to make way for a lighter, cooler one. It’s totally normal—but it can definitely feel overwhelming.

So what can you do about it? 👇

🐾 Brush, brush, brush!
Regular brushing (daily for heavy shedders) helps remove loose fur before it ends up on your couch.

🐾 Use the right tools
De-shedding brushes or undercoat rakes can make a huge difference during peak shedding season.

🐾 Bath time helps
Occasional baths (with pet-safe shampoo) can loosen and remove excess hair.

🐾 Consider professional grooming
A good groom can remove a ton of dead coat and keep your pet more comfortable.

🐾 Support skin & coat health
A balanced diet (and sometimes omega-3 supplements) can improve coat quality and reduce excessive shedding.

💡 A little extra shedding is normal—but if you’re noticing bald spots, itching, or skin changes, it’s worth getting checked out.
