Faiths Haven Animal Shelter

Faiths Haven Animal Shelter Faiths Haven Animal Shelter is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter serving Labrador West and surrounding communities since 2010.

Fully volunteer-run, we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals while promoting compassion, education, and responsible pet care. Faith's Haven Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization that began in May 2010. We operate an animal shelter which is run entirely by volunteers. We are working hard to decrease the amount of animal euthanasia that is happening in Labrador West each year by finding ne

w homes for animals in need. Since we began, we have found forever homes for hundreds of cats, dogs, and other animals.

šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‚ This beautiful lady is celebrating her 65th birthday today! šŸŽ‚šŸŽ‰

Eileen is asking folks to consider donating $6.50 to Faiths Haven Animal Shelter in honor of her special day.

Many of you know Eileen from IGA, and many of you know just how much she loves and supports the animals in our care. There is never a time that I see her that she isn’t handing over a donation to help buy treats for our precious animals or supporting a fundraiser or our thrift shop.

People like Eileen make a real difference in the lives of the animals we care for every day. Her kindness, generosity, and love for animals never go unnoticed.

From all of us at Faiths Haven, we love you, Eileen, and we wish you the happiest 65th birthday! Thank you for always being such an amazing friend to our shelter and to the animals who depend on usā¤ļø

Waiting and watching.šŸ‘€

We want to remind folks not to feed Bandit. If he is being fed elsewhere, we are never going to catch him. Right now, he needs to have one reliable food source, and that source has to be the one we have set up for him.

Bandit is not going to starve to death. He is a healthy, intelligent, resourceful dog with strong survival instincts.

When he becomes hungry enough, those instincts will kick in and he will begin making decisions based on food. That is exactly why it is so important that he only has one food source available to him right now.

Every time he finds food somewhere else, it delays the process and makes it less likely that he will enter the area we have set up for him. As difficult as it is, allowing him to become hungry enough to choose the safe option is currently our best chance of bringing him home.

We know everyone wants to help, and we are incredibly grateful for that. The best way to help Bandit right now is to continue reporting sightings.

It would be wonderful if we could simply lure him over with food and have him come to us, but unfortunately that’s just not realistic. Bandit is not a typical dog. He ran for a living and has incredible stamina, instincts, and survival skills.

He is interested in watching other dogs and even people at times, but he always keeps a safe distance and will bolt if he feels the slightest bit uncomfortable. It is extremely unlikely that we are going to catch him by having him simply walk up to us. Even if we have food.

As difficult as it is, patience is our greatest tool right now. We are waiting, watching, and continuing to adjust our plans. We truly believe we will get him.

Thank you for continuing to love our precious Banditā¤ļø

***Thank you for your interest in Tommi. We have had multiple people reach out and will be getting back to them. For now we won’t be taking anymore requests.

Tommi is looking for his forever home. He is also looking for a foster home right away. He is a typical puppy who needs boundaries and corrections. He needs someone who has the time to spend with him.

Tommi is 14 weeks old. He is a precious sweetheart who has a lot of love to give. He is doing wonderful with his potty training and his crate training. We have and will be providing all initial vet care including vaccinations and his neuter.

Send us a message if you want to meet our boyā¤ļø

I will be making a special update about W***y soon. He is doing well but the effects of his brain injury are often noticeable. His Montreal appointment has been delayed, but we remain in contact with them and send updates.

***This is a post I made on our Stand With W***y page. This is in response to a person who feels that W***y is no longer important to me because I’m posting too much about Bandit.

When asked How W***y was doing by a caring individual, an anonymous participant commented and said ā€œShe’s moved on now, W***y doesn’t matter to her anymore.ā€

I won’t lie, that comment hurt me. I try very hard to remain professional and composed, but some days are harder than others. Today was one of those days. And yes, I do see who posts anonymously.

Bandit is the animal who needs our help most right now. Every animal in our care is equally important. Always.

Maybe I’m a little sensitive. Maybe I’m sleep deprived. Probably both. So if I’m overreacting, I apologize.

What hurts most is when people question my dedication to these animals or the dedication of our volunteers. Many people don’t see what happens behind the scenes.

They don’t see the sleepless nights with W***y. The tears. The hours spent comforting him through episodes. Teaching him to walk again after setbacks. Holding him up when he can’t eat or drink on his own. Cleaning up after him when he can’t p*e or p**p properly. Reassuring him when he’s frightened and confused.

They didn’t see the emergency vet visits, the complications after surgery, the fear, or the nights spent sleeping on the floor beside him just so he could rest.

They don’t see the missed family time, the cancelled plans, the countless fundraisers, the lost pets we search for, the homes we find for our other precious animals, or the thousands of volunteer hours that go into helping our community.

And that’s okay. We don’t do it for recognition.

What does become exhausting is the negativity. The animals are never the hard part. The shelter is never the hard part. The hard part is dealing with people who are determined to be unkind.

Thankfully, those people are greatly outnumbered by our incredible supporters.

Most importantly, I could never do any of this alone.

To our volunteers… thank you. You give your time, your energy, your hearts, and your tears. Faiths Haven exists because of you. I love and appreciate every one of you.

Thank you for standing with us, standing with W***y, and standing with all of the animals who need a voice.

And off we go for another night out looking for Bandit. But rest assured Anonymous 435, W***y is loved beyond words. Every animal at Faiths Haven is incredibly special to us.

Kelley: It’s on tonight, Bandit.

Bandit: We’ll see about that. šŸ™„

All joking aside, he is getting closer and closer. Tonight is another night, and we remain hopeful.

We don’t discuss everything that we are doing, but rest assured we haven’t even begun to run out of hope or options yet.

If folks could please stay out of the Canning snow dump area again tonight, we would be so grateful.

This is the perfect place to catch him. We want him to stay here. He is lured to the food source and now it’s a waiting game again.

We would also like to remind people not to feed him. As long as he is being fed elsewhere, our chances of bringing him safely home become much more difficult. As sad as this sounds and as difficult as it is to watch, we need him to be very hungry. We will take care of any potential medical issues afterwards.

The longer this takes, the more vulnerable he becomes to the weather, wildlife, injuries, and other outside elements. Every day matters.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support, encourage, and keep an eye out for our beautiful boyā¤ļø

It’s On Tonight, Bandit! ā¤ļø

Thank you so much to everyone who has been keeping an eye on our beautiful boy.

We are getting very close to bringing him home.

We have some plans in place for tonight and are feeling hopeful.

To help us, we kindly ask that folks stay away from the Canning snow dump area this evening. Keeping the area quiet and undisturbed will give us the best chance possible.

Of course, we can’t enforce that, but it would mean so very much to us.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and love for Bandit.

Going to be an awesome night. You won’t want to miss it!! Hope to see you thereā¤ļø

Long post. Sorry lol😬

Bandit is still on the move. He looks good and is still strong. This Friday will mark three weeks since he went missing. Today he was very active and getting a little braver. Tonight it’s quiet. Not even any foxes.

We have tried many different things and we are not giving up. There has not been a single day that we haven't spent hours and hours watching, waiting, and working on a plan to bring him home safely.

We don't discuss all of the methods we are using, but please know that we are definitely not out of options and talk to professional trappers regularly.

Bandit is still staying close to his food source, but sadly he is also finding food elsewhere. That makes things a little more challenging, but not impossible.

How can you help? It's easy. If you see Bandit, please take a picture if you can do so safely. Send us a message with the time and exact location of the sighting. Every piece of information helps us better understand his movements. We want to be sure he stays close to his circle.

We do have another strategy in place and are hoping this will be successful. It has definitely been frustrating at times, but I truly believe we will get him.

As for the funny video we're sharing, please know that we are not making light of the situation. At this point, if we don't laugh a little, we might cry. Sometimes a bit of humour helps get us through the difficult days.

Thank you to everyone who continues to watch for him, share our posts, and support this effort. We aren't giving up on Bandit.

***We will add, so folks can understand our way of thinking…

Sled dogs can be much harder to trap than the average pet dog. Many of them are bred to be independent thinkers and to make decisions on their own while working. They are often less likely to seek comfort from people when they are stressed and can be very cautious of anything unfamiliar.

What we are seeing from Bandit is not unusual for a sled dog. The good news is that he continues to stay within a fairly consistent area, he looks healthy, and he keeps returning to places that are familiar to him. Every sighting helps us learn more about his movements and habits.

We know it can be frustrating to watch and wait. Trust us, we feel that too. But this isn’t a race. It’s about making the right move at the right time. We would rather take longer and bring Bandit home safely than rush the process and lose the progress we have made.

And to answer the question of why we don’t just grab him… there is simply not a chance that he will get close enough right now.

Bandit is still very cautious and has plenty of energy. Unless he unexpectedly walks right up to someone, which is extremely unlikely, trying to approach him would only cause him to run. Once a dog in survival mode is spooked, you can lose days or even weeks of progress.

What we need is for Bandit to make the decision to come to us. That’s why everything we are doing is focused on building his confidence around the traps, keeping the area quiet, and making sure he feels safe enough to let his guard down.

If there ever comes a time when we know we can safely grab him, we absolutely will. Until then, patience gives us the best chance of bringing him home safely.
