Mario sent me some videos of daily goings on at the shelter in Guanajuato so I could share them with my followers. Here is my amateur video. 😉

This is not good news. Screwworm has made its way to Guanajuato. 🙁
Several cases have been reported in the city. I can't imagine what this means for the stray dog population. More suffering.
It has claimed the life of one of our senior dogs at the shelter. Now all the dogs are on Nexgard which is another $300 monthly cost for us.
RIP Roy 💔. Roy came to us around eleven years ago after being rescued by Jan Copeland. She saw him, along with another dog, tied up on a short rope at a home she passed frequently on her way into town. She convinced the owner to give both dogs up to her. The other dog, much smaller, found a home in Victoria, but Roy proved to not be a dog suitable for adoption. He was a great 85-pound guardian and I am sure kept many a possible robber away. In particular, he hated the gas man. 😉 He hung out on the front property with Celia (his best pal) and had his own "bedroom", a roomy stone cave right by the front door. He greeted Mario every day with a wagging tail and cruised the whole property when he was there.

Rest in Peace beautiful lady Ella, aka "Queen of Canada" as her person, Carol, called her.
Descanses en Paz, angelita Ella.
So many thanks to Carol Mitchell for taking in and caring for this beautiful and special girl, Ella, for so many years. She lived a great life in Grand Forks, B.C. Ella came to Carol (Gosh, Carol, help me out here?!!!) fifteen years ago. She was a rescued stray from Guanajuato and I brought her to Canada especially for Carol because I thought she was a good fit for her and her extended family. The rest is history. Ella was fortunate to have gone across Canada with Carol in her little Boler trailer.
Take care, Carol, Ella is so thankful she spent her life with you. 💔

Thank goodness for donors!
We usually send multiple dogs on a single transport with a passenger, but this time it was not possible. So, Pepi was the only dog that went on yesterday's flight, which makes it quite costly. However, on average, I would say that for each dog that comes to Canada is a loss of around $400 for us. If there are not enough donations it comes out of pocket.
For those interested in how rescuing and homing dogs can be a financial strain, here is an accounting of Pepi's transport. Yikes. That loss will be covered by some of the donations recently made by Pat, Paul, Lyle and Marion.

Meanwhile Pepi is enjoying her time decompressing about all the travel in the last day or two. Such a resilient little pooch! Here she is after her bath this morning.
Also thanks to Elena for donating the coat, harness, leash and bowls for Pepi.

Met up with Rebecca and Robin as planned and now Pepi and I are on our way back to Victoria. She is doing really well, quiet and just loved cuddles. This afternoon we are dedicating ourselves to napping. ❤️

Muchas gracias to Julia for flying with Pepi from Guanajuato to Mexico City so darn early this morning.
Thank you to Rebecca and Robin for meeting Pepi at YVR really darn early tomorrow morning and bringing her to Tsawwassen to meet me.
I will be walking on the ferry very darn early tomorrow from Swartz Bay and back on with Pepi.
Thank you to Tam who will be doing a foster-to-adopt.
All this for one little six-pound dog named PEPI. ❤️💥😊

We have these two little doggos that want to get north so they can find their forever homes or their foster homes. They will travel in the cargo hold.
All paperwork will be in order to depart Mexico and enter Canada as commercial. GST and Inspection fee will be paid as will their airfare.
Representative from Mex-Can will assist with check in and will meet you at YVR to take the dogs.
It's easy and very rewarding.
PLEASE SHARE, so Sary and Nieve can get home. 🤞☺🤞

😊👏Thanks to Julia, this mama dog and her puppies are safe.
Three weeks ago Julia noticed this little tricolour and her puppies at the local Guanajuato Animal Control. They had been "donated" to them by the "owner". 😠
They are safe and in quarantine at Julia's and Mex-Can has donated a bag of puppy food. The mama named "Sary' received her first vaccination after the 15 day observation period. The pups will soon start their vaccination series. Puppies are always a risky business as it is not until they've completed the full series of three vaccinations are they really immunized against the rampant parvo virus and distemper in the city. Keep your fingers crossed for them.
Sary will eventually be offered for adoption, but only after we can observe her as she grows stronger and show us her true temperament. So, please no inquiries as yet.
