Hello everyone! We have so many new page members I thought I'd take a second to re-introduce ourselves and thank you guys all so very much for being in this space!😊

My name is Maddy and I teach pet first aid with my first-hand girl Esmeralda 🐾 We originally come from Vernon in the Okanagan. While we lived there, we went to school in Delta to become a P+ (positive reinforcement) Dog Training team. We enjoyed our time in that realm, but it was not too long after we took on becoming a Pet First Aid Instructor team through ProPetHero (ProTrainings). That is where we really found our place in the scene! Combining our Developmental Training Skills into our Pet First Aid Class has given us a huge advantage in applying techniques practically, calmly, and in the safest manor for human and pet.... and Esmeralda is happy to show it all to you!

Together for 4.5 years , Esmeralda and I have travelled around BC from South Okanagan all the way up to Prince George before moving to Vancouver Island last March. Our time on the Island has been nothing but a positive experience! What an INCREDIBLE region of pet owners and business.... we found our home! 💖

In the last year and a half we have been able to maintain classes south, mid and north island, while rotating around Gulf Islands and remote coastal communities. Our journey in helping people become the best pet handlers they can be has been as moving for us as it has been for the 800+ people we have taught.

We thrive on hands-on, practical, and real life classes where you can leave feeling confident to handle whatever medical emergencies your pet may have. Leaving you with certificates, class knowledge, post class manuals, and an extensive amount of free resources. We act as the "life-saving bridge between the accident scene and the vet" and in some remote community areas, we are the best thing available when a vet is ferry rides and hours away. 🐈🐕

Our mission is simple- We want your pet to have the best chance at life in any case scenario.❤️‍🩹 Oh...and we ✨DO NOT USE AI✨..... just good ol' fashioned keyboards, canva, and my invested time 😊

Pet First Aid Certification is coming to Nanaimo! 🐾

We’re excited to bring our hands-on Pet First Aid class to the community and spend the day helping local pet owners feel a little more prepared for the unexpected. We all hope we’ll never need these skills, but emergencies can happen quickly, and knowing what to do in those first few moments can make a meaningful difference while your pet is on the way to veterinary care.

For over four years, Maddy and Esmé have travelled throughout British Columbia teaching Pet First Aid to pet owners, breeders, trainers, rescue volunteers, animal professionals, and communities of all sizes. It has been an incredible experience, and we’re incredibly grateful for every community that has welcomed us and trusted us with this important education.

Our class is practical, interactive, and designed to give you skills you can actually use. We cover CPR, choking, bleeding and bandaging, wounds, fractures, poisoning, allergic reactions, bloat, heat and cold emergencies, vital signs, safe transportation, and so much more. Many of our topics include hands-on demonstrations so you aren't simply listening — you're learning by doing.

Participants receive a 2-year Pet First Aid Certification through ProPetHero, a recognized pet first aid training provider, along with a Pet First Aid E-Manual, Mini Manual, wall and wallet certificates, and additional resources to help you continue using your knowledge long after class.

Calling all pet owners on the Sunshine Coast! 🐾

We're excited to be bringing our Pet First Aid Certification class to Sechelt, and we'd love to welcome participants from communities across the entire Sunshine Coast. 🏝️

My name is Maddy, and together with Esmé, we've spent the past 4+ years travelling throughout British Columbia teaching hands-on Pet First Aid to pet owners, breeders, trainers, rescue volunteers, veterinary staff, and animal professionals. It's been an incredible journey, and we're so grateful for the opportunity to help people feel more confident caring for the animals they love.

Emergencies can happen when we least expect them—whether it's a choking incident at home, an injury on the trail, a reaction to a bee sting, or a medical emergency during a weekend adventure. While we all hope we never have to use these skills, knowing what to do in those first few moments can make a meaningful difference while your pet is on the way to veterinary care.

This interactive class combines practical demonstrations with hands-on learning to help you feel prepared when it matters most. We can not get enough of Comox! Each time we pack up and make our way up Island, it is always 10/10 worth the effort! The Comox Valley is filled with tons of incredible pet parents, business owners and animal lovers and we get the pleasure of meeting handfuls of them each time we go 🥰

We had 11 people come out and learn life-saving pet first aid, every single person did such a FABULOUS job!! Enjoy below some photos of our epic learning day together 🐾✨

Summer water PSA!!

💧💚 Blue green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, is a type of bacteria that can be found in both fresh and saltwater. Unfortunately, it poses a significant risk to human and animal health, making it crucial to know where and when it is found and how to spot it.

🌊 Blue green algae is most commonly found in bodies of water with high levels of nutrients, such as lakes and ponds. In BC, it is most prevalent during the summer months, between June and October. It can also be found in slow-moving rivers and streams.

🚫 The risk posed by blue green algae comes from the toxins it produces, which can cause serious health issues in humans and animals. In dogs, for example, it can lead to seizures, vomiting, and liver damage. It can even be fatal in some cases.

👀 So, how do you spot blue green algae? It can look like green, blue-green, or brown scum on the surface of the water. It can also manifest as individual clumps or as a greenish-brown or greenish-blue discolouration of the water. If you see any of these signs, it is important to stay away from the water and to keep your pets away as well.

🤔 What can you do to reduce the risk of exposure to blue green algae? One of the best things you can do is to be aware of the areas where it is commonly found. The ASPCA recommends avoiding swimming in or drinking from bodies of water that have visible algal blooms. If you do come into contact with blue green algae, it is important to rinse off with clean water as soon as possible.

👩‍⚕️ If you suspect that you or your pet have been exposed to blue green algae, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. As mentioned earlier, the toxins produced by blue green algae can be very dangerous and can even be fatal.

We want to say 2 huge thank-you's to 2 amazing different groups!

First was our Nanaimo class we had 2 weeks ago and the second was our Victoria class we had on Sunday! Both classes were filled with tons of pet oriented people who braved the day and took on our 7 hour class. Everyone did a great job in participation, great question asking and demonstration presentation. 🐾

I can not thank everyone who attended enough, It truly means so much to me in my journey of educating people on how to take care of their pets or their clients pets in any scenario 😊✨
