Learning to ride is about learning how to effectively communicate with your horse.
How do we ask them in a way they understand?
How do we let them know that they’ve done what we’ve asked... in a way they understand?
When they express their opinions about what we’re asking, how do we listen and adapt?
How do we show them that they can trust us?
Learning to ride is learning to speak their language. We never stop learning and it makes this sport so incredibly special ❤️

Trainer - I kept asking you the same question and you gave me the right answer, but I didn’t accept it as right. So you changed your answer, got frustrated and confused. This is exactly how your horse can feel if you miss the release!

“Nothing of any substance can be built on a flimsy foundation.” - Bert De Nemethy, coach of our Olympic Jumping Team from 1955 to 1980.
So true! Bernie on foundations…
🔸Proper placement of the foot in the stirrup
🔸Toe angle
🔸Heel depth
🔸Spur properly placed on boot
🔸Stirrup pads and type

Someone told me they heard Rodney Jenkins once say, “Ridin’s in the foot.” I know what he meant!

NEW PONY PROGRESS UPDATE!! Tilly pony joined Hunter Green EC last winter and came with a very sad story. While it is clear Tilly has had formal training under saddle before she came to us, she was terrified of people, was nearly impossible to catch, and if you thought you were going to get anywhere near her ears, you thought WRONG. For those of you who were with Lynn when Mocha came, sound familiar? Despite being terrified, Tilly was always curious and sweet and we are so happy to say that her intelligent and kind nature has absolutely shon in the care of Lynn, Vicky and everyone at HGEC that has been a part of this pony’s journey. Tilly now waits at the gait with the rest of her pony friends and often comes in side by side with Joey pony who she adores. While she’s still shy, Lynn and a few of the dedicated young students that have been working with her can now groom her all over, tack her up, and have grown her confidence exponentially. Mia has been Tilly’s constant partner from the start and rides this speedy little pony beautifully. This past weekend, Mia road Tilly in our monthly In House show, winning their division with an outstanding ride. We are so incredibly proud of how far this pair has come and can’t wait to see what they can accomplish ☺️

We love our monthly In House Shows!! Everyone is welcome from our newest beginners to our advanced adult riders ☺️
