🍂 The leaves are falling. The ticks aren’t necessarily finished.
Cooler temperatures and colourful trails make October one of the nicest times of year to get outside with your dog. But a walk through tall grass, wooded areas or a pile of leaves can still mean coming home with an unwanted hitchhiker.
Before you assume tick season is over for the year, take a few seconds to check your pet after those fall adventures—and make sure their flea and tick protection is up to date.

The Pet Pharmacist carries a range of veterinarian-approved flea and tick medications for dogs and cats, with prescription support available when required.
Beautiful fall walks? Absolutely.
Uninvited passengers? No thanks.
If you have questions about your pet’s medication or need a refill, our pet pharmacy team is here to help.

PSA – Not Every Fall Mushroom is Harmless
Autumn is beautiful, but it brings a hidden risk for curious pets.
As the weather cools, wild mushrooms start popping up in yards, parks, and along walking trails. While some are harmless, others can be highly toxic to dogs and cats, and there's no easy way to tell the difference at a glance. Certain fall plants can be dangerous too.

Take a quick look around your yard and remove any mushrooms or unfamiliar plants before your pet discovers them first. If your dog or cat eats something you can't identify, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian right away.
A few minutes of prevention can make all the difference in keeping your pet safe this fall.

Your dog can’t tell you when something isn’t right—but she can show you.
Keep an eye out for changes such as bad breath or drooling, increased drinking or urination, changes in appetite or weight, lower energy, stiffness, sleeping more than usual, unusual behaviour, coughing or trouble breathing, itchy or irritated skin, lumps or sores, digestive changes, or red, cloudy eyes.
You know your dog best, so don’t ignore changes that seem unusual. When something doesn’t feel right, contact your veterinarian.

A curious nose can turn into an emergency faster than you think.
Just like people, pets can have severe allergic reactions to bee or wasp stings, and in some cases, those reactions can become life-threatening. Spider bites from poisonous species should also be treated as an emergency.
If your pet develops sudden swelling around the face, difficulty breathing, or collapses after a sting or bite, don't wait—contact your veterinarian immediately.

Have you noticed your pet moving a little slower this week?
As the temperatures drop, many pets—especially seniors—start showing signs of stiffness that weren't as noticeable a few weeks ago. Whether it's taking longer to get up, hesitating on stairs, or slowing down on walks, those small changes are worth paying attention to.
Don't wait for winter. Stop by The Pet Pharmacist or give us a call—we'll help you explore veterinarian-approved options that can help keep your pet comfortable and moving with confidence this season.
