The BC SPCA recently held three wildfire-response microchip clinics in Kelowna, Penticton and Kamloops to support communities affected by wildfire and those facing potential evacuation.

With well over a hundred families in attendance, we got talking and discovered… there are a lot of misunderstandings about pet microchips! Here are the top ‘myths’ we were happy to clear up!

🐾 Looking for a loyal companion with a heart as big as her paws? Meet Hadanii, a 1.5-year-old spayed Rottie/Kelpie cross who's ready to find her forever family!

Hadanii is a sweet girl who gets along well with other dogs and is already house-trained. She knows how to sit and is eager to learn more, especially when treats are involved! Like many young dogs, she's still working on remembering that she's a big girl and that jumping up on people isn't the best way to say hello. When meeting new people, Hadanii can be a little shy at first. Give her a few tasty treats and a little patience, and you'll quickly see her playful, affectionate personality shine through.

Once she trusts you, she's a wonderful companion who loves being part of the action. Hadanii is looking for a cat-free home where she can continue building her confidence and enjoy all the love and adventures life has to offer. If you're searching for a sweet, smart, and lovable best friend, Hadanii might just be your perfect match! ❤️

You can show your love for animals by keeping mice and rats away from your home. That's because the most effective and humane way to solve rodent issues is prevention!

Use these 4 easy steps to get your home rodent-proofed, and download the guide and checklist to make sure you are checking all the boxes to get a rodent-free home!

Rodent-proofing your home in 4 simple steps
✅Step 1 – Remove attractants
Rodents are drawn to areas with accessible food and shelter. Make your home less attractive to mice and rats by removing as many of these attractants as possible.

✅Step 2 – Locate entry points
Take a walk around the exterior of your home or examine your balcony if in an apartment. Scan up to the roofline as rodents are excellent climbers. Can you see any gaps, open vents, or other potential points of access? Remember, mice can enter a home through holes the size of a dime!

✅Step 3 – Exclude and repair
To rodent-proof, you will need to close off all points of access that you have identified. Use rodent exclusion materials like heavy or 16-gauge wire mesh with a 1 cm x 1cm gap size to cover holes, metal mesh filler to stuff into holes around pipes, and expanding foam sealant to spray over the top of metal mesh and to fill other gaps and cracks.

✅Step 4 – Maintain, maintain, maintain!
Rodents have large, strong front teeth built for gnawing that can chew through almost anything (including metal!). That’s why the last step in keeping your home rodent-proof is to regularly check for signs of renewed rodent activity and make repairs promptly.

❤️❤️Are you looking to welcome some new fuzzy friends into your home? Well look no further than Pumpkin and Squash!

This lovely girl is friendly, and lovely to be around. Whether it be sharing some leafy greens, or relaxing together in a cozy spot, time with Pumpkin is always the best. Pumpkin fills her days with discovery, from hopping across fun new textures to munching on delicious snacks, then flopping down somewhere soft for a rest. Snack time is the highlight of Pumpkin’s day! Lettuce, dandelion leaves, small bits of fruit… everything is Pumpkin’s favourite! Another favourite of Pumpkins are her bunny sister Squash. They can often all be found huddled together before a quick flopped nap sesh. If you are interested in making Pumpkin and Squash the newest members of your family, hit the link below to submit a pre-adoption questionnaire! https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/rgphrmg-pre-adoption-questionnaire/

This beautiful young eagle came into care thin and dehydrated. It was very likely that she had been orphaned. After receiving a thorough assessment, blood work, and supportive care at Wild ARC, she was transferred to OWL in Vancouver to continue building her strength and flight conditioning in their ample flight pens.

Thanks to the dedication of wildlife rehabilitators at both centres, this eagle made a remarkable recovery. Now, she’s back where she belongs, soaring the skies of Esquimalt once again! ❤️

Every release is a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together to help wildlife in need. Thank you to everyone who played a part in this eagle’s journey from rescue to freedom.

Watch as she takes flight and returns to the wild! 🦅✨

🐾Welcome back to Halloween Hazards with the BC SPCA! 🐾

Pets can choke on hard candies and chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats. That’s why it’s important to store candy in a spot where your pet won’t be tempted to chow down.

Pets can still enjoy treats made especially for them on Halloween. Check out your local pet supply store or dog bakery for Halloween-themed treats that your pet will love!

Meet Luis (or Louie!) 🐾

If you’re looking for a loyal best friend with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Luis may be the dog you’ve been waiting for.

At just 18 months old, this handsome Lab/Pitty mix is ready to find a family that will love him for the incredible dog he is. Luis is a people-loving companion who greets friends with a wagging tail, a bright smile, and an enthusiasm for life that is hard to resist. He forms strong bonds with those he trusts and genuinely enjoys being part of whatever is happening around him.

Whether it’s heading out for a walk, exploring a new trail, playing in the yard, or simply relaxing at home, Luis is happiest when he’s spending time with his favorite people. He is affectionate, devoted, and always eager to be included in the day’s adventures.

Because Luis forms such strong attachments to his people, he can sometimes be vocal when left alone and is still building confidence with being independent. His future family should be prepared to help him continue developing these skills through patience, consistency, and encouragement. The reward is a deeply loyal companion who will be by your side through life’s adventures.

What Luis needs most is a family that will see his potential and commit to helping him be the very best version of himself. Someone who understands that young dogs are a work in progress, celebrates the small victories along the way, and won’t give up when life gets a little challenging.

Luis is kind-hearted, affectionate, eager to learn, and full of love to give. All that’s missing is a family to share it with.

If you’re looking for a devoted companion who wants to be part of your everyday life, come meet Luis and see why everyone who knows him has fallen in love.

❤️🐾 Luis is ready to start his next chapter. Could it be with you? Learn more Luis at https://adopt.spca.bc.ca/pets/793649/. |

❤️Remember Chantel? The senior miniature pinscher came into care with diseased teeth and a docked tail that had healed improperly. The part of the tail that remained had curled inward, pressed against her colon, and kept her in a constant painful state – poor girl.

Made possible by your caring heart, Chantel received all the care she needed, including dental surgery, tail surgery, x-rays, and more. Since her successful treatments, she’s been feeling more like herself and doing much better. As her condition improved, so did her future. We are happy to share that Chantel has found her forever home!

Chantel’s family shared a nice update about her life: “Since her surgery, Chantel has done very well. She doesn’t do her ‘dance’ hardly ever. In the morning, as she waits for me to go out, she does it a little sometimes. Other than that, no more problems.”

Your kindness for sweet Chantel has truly meant a lot, caring friend. Despite the hardships she endured, she received the urgent medical help she needed because of your generosity. Thank you for staying by Chantel’s side on her healing journey and giving her a second chance. You are amazing!
