Big and Small Rescue Society We are a Vancouver-based registered non-profit society dedicated to re-homing dogs These dogs are sad, sick, often starving, and many are badly abused.

We rescue dogs locally, from Northern Canadian reservations and dogs about to be euthanized in high-kill shelters in California. These shelters destroy 87% of their intake or nearly 1000 loving dogs a month. We are not changing the world with our small rescue efforts, but to quote a popular saying in rescue, 'we are surely changing the world for that one dog'. We take these dogs in to foster homes where they are lovingly restored to health. We find them kind and caring homes and make them the promise to love them forever. It's a labour of love; it's our small effort to live up to their incredible friendship. Although we appreciate the many caring foster and adoption applications for our dogs, it is our mandate to fit the family to the dog's needs, not vice versa. As such, not all applicants may be considered suitable for our rescue dogs.

RABIES ALERT - A rabid skunk has been found in the West End- Stanley Park area of Vancouver. The skunk bit a person. The skunk has been caught. Anyone bitten recently by a wild animal bitten call VCH. There may be more RABID SKUNKS AND OTHER RABID WILDLIFE in this area. PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH. Anyone spotting an animal behaving strangely or if you get bitten then go to ER ASAP.
Contact VCH Public Health at 604-675-3900 Monday-Friday (9AM-5PM).
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE WITH YOURSELVES AND YOUR OFF-LEASH DOGS.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET WRANGLER. Oh Dear Lord. What have we here? Wrangler is one cutie-patootie. He weighs about 12 lbs and is 11-12 weeks old. What mix is he? So hard to say. Maybe some Dobie? Maybe something smaller like a heeler or border collie or maybe a Jack Russel? He has gorgeous freckly legs. Wrangler is a smart little puppy. He listens and wants to learn. He also loves a lot of cuddles. We think he would fit into most households with kids, cats and other dogs. Just as long as his fosters have time for him and patience for a baby pooch. Fosters must be in the Lower Mainland to access our vets.

FOSTER NEEDED - MEET JUNY - We are looking for someone experienced in schnauzers or the terrier breed class. This lovely sweet girl is looking for a warm lap and someone to love her. She is about 2 years old. She weighs 19 lbs. We see Schnauzer and maybe some Havanese. Hard to say. Juny is a love bug who shadows her human around the house. She curls up on the couch next to her person. She loves plenty of chin rubs. She enjoys her walks. A good neighbourly sniff suits her just fine. She is on the shy-side when it comes to loud urban noises but more exposure will help normalise city life. She gets along with other dogs; not tested with cats yet. Juny is a laid back girl. She is very Schnauzer in her personality profile and we feel the terrier people will understand her best .We think she would prefer a quiet home so no young kids. The foster must be is in the Lower Mainland of BC.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET COWBOY - This darling and sweet little puppy is about 12 weeks. He is so gentle. He is living with kids and doing fabulously. He is going to be middling energy, in our estimate, as an adult. He weighs about 11 lbs and is growing like a w**d. We see some doberman in him mixed with something smaller. It is really tough to say. He is a bright little button and easy to train. He loves to learn new things. He is such a cuddler. He will make a loving companion dog for anyone who has time to give a new canine baby. He'd fit into most household and at this age could be integrated with cats. Cowboy is in the Lower Mainland.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET JELL-O -This gorgeous little guy weighs about 21 lbs and is around 1-2 year old . We see poodle and some terrier. He is cute whatever his mix! Jell-o is an all around lovely dog. He gets along with the dog he meets on his walks and his foster pooch-sister. He is affectionate with his person. He loves to lean on you. He is a cuddle bug. He is laid back but still enjoys his out door adventures. This is an easy going dog; especially for such a young pooch. He is still a bit of a baby and can learn more commands. He is not tested with cats. He seems to be good with kids. A great loving all-around boy.

🐾 Meet Kea & Maybe — Two Sweet Souls Looking for a Loving Home!

Kea is a beautiful 10-year-old Siberian Husky with a gentle heart and a loving personality. She once worked as a therapy dog, accompanying Cathy on visits to assisted living homes and bringing comfort, companionship, and smiles to the people she met. Kea has a wonderful temperament and a special way of connecting with people. ❤️

Maybe is a sweet 12-year-old Husky/German Shepherd mix who loves being around people. She is affectionate, well-socialized, and enjoys the comfort of human companionship. Like Kea, she has so much love to give and would make a wonderful companion.
Both girls are well-trained, gentle, and accustomed to being around people. If possible, we would love to see them find a home together. They are familiar with each other, and staying side by side would provide comfort and continuity as they begin this new chapter of their lives. 🐾💗

FOSTER NEEDED - MEET LITTLE FIONA - She looks like a little fox. Fiona is a sweet pea. She is about 4-6 years old. She weighs 17 lbs. She does well with other dogs at the shelter. She is kennelled with a number of them. The staff finds her easy to handle. Fiona would love to find a warm lap to sit on while she awaits her furever home. ADOPTER NEEDED – MEET ROCKY! 💙
This cute powder puff dude called Rocky is available for adoption. He is a super sweet 8–10-year-old Bichon Frise x . He has such a lovely soft curly coat. Sigh. Reminds me of a soft pillow or a white cloud floating across the sky. He weighs only 17 lbs. Rocky is ham. He has the cutest little snaggle tooth. This guy is a CHILL GENTLEMAN. He loves walks, food, treats, belly rubs, squeaky toys and cozy couch naps. Sounds just fine by me. He loves car rides and walks. He has an eye for squirrels! Rocky loves calm dogs in low gear - like himself. Cats have not been tested. Rocky is looking for a loving forever home where he can enjoy the simple things in life. We think a laid-back household would suit his demeanour best. He is in the Lower Mainland.
