📌 Save this for the next time you are looking for a dog walker

Whenever you are looking for a dog daycare, walker, boarding, don’t just ask about availability and pricing! Consider this an interview checklist.

Unfortunately the pet service industry isn’t the most regulated - no standardized exams, certifications, the barrier to entry is low. But this “simple” job anyone can do is also a job that comes with a lot of responsibility.

It only takes one mistake for your dog not to come home. And that’s why it’s important to ask uncomfortable questions, spot red flags from the get go. The worst time to learn about your dog carer’s safety protocols is after something goes wrong!

So, ask the hard questions and don’t worry about being “that” dog parent. A good and reputable dog care professional should WANT you to 💙

Car safety is often overlooked when choosing your dog’s daycare, but it shouldn’t be!

When we started Pupworld, safety was at the forefront of everything we built. And brainstorming on transportation safety was just the beginning.

Before Pupworld, our dog Creama went to daycare too. At the time, we didn’t think to ask how the dogs were transported, and it wasn’t something openly communicated to us. We later learned that the vans were overcrowded, with dogs packed like sardines. As a result, Creama developed car anxiety she never had before.

That experience shaped a lot of the decisions we made when building Pupworld. From the start, we chose to spend the big bucks on our PUPBUS set up, and we have continued to upgrade it as we find ways to make transportation more safe & comfortable for our dogs.

We have seen accidents happen in this industry, and we have experienced one ourselves. We weren’t at fault, but that’s exactly the point. No matter how safely you drive, you can’t control or account for reckless drivers on the road. What we CAN do is prevention, so when the worst happens, we are prepared.

It makes us sad that the industry as a whole is not more regulated and we have been seeing devastating news with dog walkers & daycares. It takes an ENORMOUS amount of trust to place your dog in someone else’s care, and that trust needs to be earned, maintained, and never to be taken for granted.

So if you are choosing a daycare or dog walker, please ask how your dog is transported! It will tell you a lot about the company’s business practices.
