I'm so excited to finally announce that I’m now accepting clients for private training! 🎉

This is a big step I’ve been working toward for a long time. While I have a strong foundation of dog training and behaviour education, and over 5 years of experience working with dogs professionally, offering private training as a service is a new step for me. I will be refining how I structure things as I go, to ensure I provide a private training experience that works well for both you and your dogs.

Over the next little while, I’ll be sharing more details about the skills we can work on together, how booking works, and all the other fun details about this service.

For now, I’m just thrilled to officially begin expanding my services, and to start working with you and your dogs. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time, and I can’t wait to get started. 🐾

Days like this make me proud as a dog trainer, but even more proud as a dog parent 🥹.

Juno had her annual vet exam and vaccines tuesday. Like many dogs, Juno is sometimes reactive to other dogs. She gets worked up, barks, whines, growls, and pulls towards them. Its often context dependent, seeing one single dog is usually the worst for her, because its more of a surprise in her environment. It also depends on where her threshold is that day, or at that moment.

While in the waiting room at the vet, and on our way out after her exam, we encountered other dogs. And you know what? Juno didnt lose her cool 😎. Even in the environment of the vets office, even though the dog on the way out was a surprise when we opened the door to leave the exam room, even after having an exam and all her vaccines (which can be a bit stressful for any dog). She handled all of it with confidence, and was able to see the dogs, know she was okay, and focuse on me.

I am so proud of her!

We have come such a long way, but that progress didnt happen overnight, and it wouldnt have happened without putting in the time and the work. Juno still has reactions to other dogs, sometimes, but more often now she is able to navigate those situations with confidence!

If youre working on reactivity with your dog, know that it takes time, progress is not linear, and theres a lot of learning that will happen at both ends of the leash. But also know that you are not alone in this, progress is not impossible, the work is worth it, and you and your dog can climb those mountains together. 💙🐾

Thank you for another wonderful sensory room day! Every session is unique, and every pup guides themselves through the room, knowing exactly what they need. I love seeing the confidence grow, and the curiosity bloom in every dog!

Due to some last minute cancelations, I have decided to offer something very special.
If you have a puppy, and have been interested in learning more about canine sensory rooms, but aren't ready to book a full session, now is your chance to come see what its about and give it a try!

From 12:00 to 4:00pm tomorrow Friday August 28th I have space available for a handful of sensory room "try-it" sessions at the Glenwood Hall. These will be 15 minute sessions at 20$ per session. Your puppy gets to do some exploring, and we can talk about appropriate socialization and enrichment!

This offer is also being extended to foster dogs! If you are fostering a dog of any age, and would like the opportunity to add some enrichment to their day, a sensory room "try it" could be the perfect activity! Its no small task to care for a foster dog, and i would love to be able to lighten the load even just for a little bit.

Ethical Dog Training 💜

Ethics in dog training aren’t just for when people are watching.

The choices we make behind closed doors matter just as much as the choices we make in public. In fact, what happens when nobody is watching often tells us the most about how we really view our dogs.

Ethical training means considering the whole dog — their emotional and physical wellbeing, their individual needs, their ability to cope, and the relationship we are building with them.

It means:

💜 Choosing methods based on kindness, respect and good science.

💜 Putting the dog’s welfare ahead of convenience, appearances or getting a behaviour fixed quickly.

💜 Avoiding fear, pain, intimidation and unnecessary distress.

💜 Recognising that a behaviour is communication, not simply something that needs to be stopped.

💜 Giving dogs appropriate choices and opportunities to succeed rather than setting them up to fail.

💜 Adjusting our expectations when a dog is struggling instead of increasing pressure.

💜 Being consistent in our approach whether we are at home, in the park, at training class or completely alone.

And ethical training also means being honest with ourselves.

Sometimes we will get frustrated. Sometimes our dogs will do something we don’t like. Sometimes a carefully planned training session simply won’t work.

That is when our ethics matter most.

We can pause. We can change the plan. We can give the dog space. We can recognise that our expectations may be too high or that something about the environment isn’t working.

We don’t need to win every interaction.

Our dogs don’t need to be perfectly obedient to deserve patience, kindness and respect.

A dog’s trust is earned through hundreds of small interactions every day. It is built when we listen, when we are fair, when we protect them, and when they can rely on us to keep them safe.

Ethical training isn’t about looking like a good trainer.

It’s about being a safe person for your dog — even when nobody else is watching. 💜

Ive been very busy this summer working on the Good Dog Academy Professional Dog Trainer course. While i still have a few pieces of the practical portion left to finish, one important piece that i have completed is the DogSafe Canine First Aid 101 certificate!

Knowing what to do in an emergency situation is an important part of being a qualified professional, and someone you can trust with your dog! 🐾

Summer Canine Sensory Room!!

After a long wait, I'm so happy to announce the dates of my upcoming sensory room days!

🕰 When: Friday August 28th and Saturday August 29th
🗺 Where: The Glenwood/Argyle Hall
💲Cost: 70$ per dog, one dog per session

Each session includes:
-Up to 35 minutes for your dog to explore the room
-I provide the treats, allergies will be accommodated
-While your dog is exploring, I will share my observations about their movement, behavior, the choices they make, and so on
-Your dogs session will be recorded, and afterwards I will email you a link to the video, as well as a short note on some of the important observations that I noted during your session if there were any

A sensory room session can be a great experience for dogs of all ages, sizes, abilities and personalities. It provides them with the opportunity for some slow and precise movement (kind of like a doggie yoga session), exploration at their own pace, and lots of mental enrichment through their senses, especially sniffing!
