🐾 WE’RE HIRING – VETERINARY ASSISTANT 🐾
West Kootenay Animal Hospital – Trail, BC
We are looking for a reliable, motivated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our busy team!
This is a five-day-per-week, Monday–Friday position.
Our Veterinary Assistants play an important role in keeping the entire hospital moving. This position isn't limited to treatment—you'll work throughout the clinic, helping with patient care, appointments, exam-room flow and CSR/reception duties as needed.
🐶 What You'll Be Doing
• Bringing patients and clients into exam rooms, gathering information and helping prepare them for their appointment
• Assisting with the flow of appointments and patients throughout the hospital
• Assisting Veterinarians and RVTs with patient care, treatments and procedures
• Safe and compassionate animal restraint
• Assisting with surgical and dental patients, blood collection, catheter placement, X-rays and other procedures
• Routine in-house laboratory work and preparing samples for outside laboratories
• Preparing and dispensing medications as directed
• Nail trims, suture removals, weight checks and other routine patient care
• Monitoring and caring for hospitalized patients
• Cleaning, stocking and maintaining treatment, surgery, isolation, exam rooms and patient-care areas
• Educating and communicating with clients regarding their pets' care
This position is also cross-trained in CSR/reception duties. As the needs of the clinic require, you may be asked to help at the front desk, including:
• Answering phones and assisting clients
• Booking and coordinating appointments
• Invoicing and processing clients through reception
• End-of-day cash-out duties
• Providing sick-day, holiday and general CSR coverage as required
We work as one team, and we're looking for someone comfortable moving between different areas of the hospital and helping wherever they're needed that day.
🐾 Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is dependable, organized and able to multitask in a busy environment. You should be a strong communicator, comfortable working with both animals and people, able to take direction and also recognize what needs to be done without always being asked.
Veterinary medicine can be busy, physical, emotional and sometimes messy. We're looking for someone who understands that and genuinely enjoys being part of a team that works together to provide excellent patient and client care.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous veterinary experience is preferred.
