Alumni Update: Bodhi (formerly Mack) 🐾

Bodhi’s story with Fetch + Releash began before he was even born.

His mom arrived in our care heavily pregnant, and soon after, gave birth to eight puppies in foster care. As the puppies grew, we learned that Bodhi was deaf and partially blind.

One by one, his siblings found their forever families. Bodhi was the last of the eight waiting to be chosen.

And then, his person found him.

So, how is Bodhi doing now? We think his adopter, Chantalle, says it best:

💬 “People often praise me for adopting a deaf and partially blind dog, as if I did some extraordinary act of charity, but loving Bodhi has never felt that way. Our training looked a little different and it took us a few months to figure each other out, but once we found our groove, I realized there really is nothing Bodhi can’t do. He hikes, swims, camps, travels and comes along for just about every adventure I can bring him on.

He reads people in a way I’ve never experienced with another dog — he knows exactly how you’re feeling, never forgets a friend and is very particular about who earns his trust. I swear he sees auras.

When I adopted him, people worried his disabilities would limit my life. Bodhi made it bigger. He’s taught me to communicate without words, pay attention to things I otherwise might have missed and experience the world a little more like he does. Our relationship is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, and at this point, I genuinely don’t think I could ever go back to a fully hearing dog.”

— Chantalle ❤️

From the last puppy in his litter waiting for a family to a life filled with hikes, swims, camping trips, travel and adventure — Bodhi found exactly where he was meant to be.

Stories like Bodhi’s are such a beautiful reminder that a dog who experiences the world a little differently can still live an incredibly big, full life. Sometimes, they might even make ours a little bigger too. 🐾❤️

Happy tails, Bodhi! We can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you. 🏕️🐶

🐶 Meet Cosmo: A big boy with a sensitive soul

This handsome boy is looking for something a little simpler: a calm home, predictable days, people he can trust, and the space to finally exhale. ❤️

Cosmo is a 3-year-old, 74 lb Australian Shepherd/Lab mix with a sensitive soul and a wonderfully silly personality that shines when he feels safe.

Once you’re part of his circle, you’ll get to know the Cosmo his foster family loves so much. The Cosmo who wiggles his bum and “talks” with excitement while waiting for the okay to eat. The Cosmo who thinks tug is the greatest game ever invented and will toss himself around to convince you to play. The Cosmo who gives you a gentle tap when you stop petting him before he’s decided cuddle time is over.

And despite being 74 lbs, Cosmo firmly believes in “if I fits, I sits.” 😂

Cosmo is happiest living a quieter life. He loves spending time with his people, relaxing nearby, sniffing and exploring outside, working on enrichment puzzles, chewing a favourite toy and enjoying adventures in peaceful natural spaces.

🏡 Cosmo’s dream home looks like:
🐾 A quiet, predictable household, ideally in a quiet suburban neighborhood or rural setting
🐾 Safe outdoor space where he can relax and explore
🐾 Experienced, patient humans who understand sensitive dogs
🐾 Older children who can respect his space and boundaries
🐾 A home that enjoys a quieter lifestyle
🐾 Continued positive reinforcement training and confidence-building
🐾 Potentially being the only dog, or living with a calm, well-matched dog after thoughtful introductions

Give him that, and in return, you’ll get a deeply loyal, affectionate and playful companion who forms incredibly meaningful bonds with the people he trusts. ❤️

📍 Fostered in Milton
🐶 3 years old | 74 lbs | Australian Shepherd/Lab mix
👧 Good with older children
🐕 Dog selective
🐱 Untested with cats

❤️ Let’s talk about Dexter’s megaesophagus and what his care really looks like…

Dexter has megaesophagus, which means his esophagus doesn’t move food into his stomach normally. While that may sound intimidating, his recent sitters had never cared for a dog with this condition before, and after three weeks with him, they learned just how manageable his routine can be. 🐶

💬 “It was our first time caring for a dog with megaesophagus, but Dexter is such an adaptable boy that his care was easily manageable. It was easy integrating his schedule and routine into ours.”

So what does his care actually involve?

🐾 Dexter eats in an upright position
🐾 He spends about 30 minutes after meals in his Bailey Chair
🐾 He wears a neck pillow while resting to keep his head elevated and help reduce regurgitation

That’s a routine Dexter already knows and handles like a champ! His sitters shared that he’s incredibly patient, and once his routine became part of theirs, it was simply part of the day. ❤️

And Dexter is so much more than his diagnosis.

He’s a gentle, affectionate cuddle bug who loves walks, sniffing adventures, yard zoomies, cozy naps and nudging your hand when you dare stop petting him.

Dexter has been waiting a long time for his forever family. We hope someone will see the incredible dog beyond his diagnosis and be willing to learn the routine that helps him thrive.

🏡 Could that be you?

🐾 Mavi is looking for his people!

Mavi is looking for the right person / family to help him continue building his confidence and becoming the best version of himself. ❤️

This sweet, sensitive 1-year-old Shepherd mix has shown us that he does best in a calm environment outside of the busy city, where life is a little quieter and he has the space and time he needs to feel safe.

For Mavi, we’re looking for a foster or adopter who can offer:

🐕 Strong dog handling experience, ideally with Shepherds, Huskies, or other large breeds
🐕 Another confident Shepherd, Husky, or large-breed dog in the home who can help show Mavi the ropes and model confidence
🏡 A home in a quiet neighbourhood outside of a busy urban setting
🌳 A securely fenced yard where he can enjoy time outside
❤️ Someone patient and understanding who will allow Mavi to build trust at his own pace
👧 If there are children in the home, older, calm, dog-savvy kids would be the best fit
🐱 No cats, please

Once Mavi feels comfortable, you get to see the goofy, affectionate lovebug underneath his initial uncertainty. He loves being close to his people, curling up beside you, sitting on your feet, playing with toys, exploring outside, and spending time with his dog friends.

Mavi doesn’t need someone to rush him. He needs someone experienced who can provide structure, consistency, and guidance, along with a confident canine sibling who can help him learn that the world isn’t such a scary place.

Could you be the foster or forever home Mavi needs?

This week, the rescue community lost a very special woman and a true friend to so many dogs.

Sheree was one of the incredible women behind our Tennessee rescue family, where she dedicated so much of her heart to loving, caring for and saving dogs in need. She showed such tremendous love for every dog who crossed her path, making sure they knew kindness, comfort and safety while they waited for their next chapter.

Over the years, Sheree said “yes” to countless dogs who needed someone to believe in them, many of whom went on to find their second chance and forever families here in Canada. 🐾

The Tennessee farm holds such a special place in the heart of Fetch + Releash, and Sheree will forever be a part of its story and ours.

Her kindness and compassion changed the lives of more dogs than we could ever count. Every dog she comforted, cared for and helped send on their journey to a better life carries a little piece of her legacy with them.

We are incredibly grateful for every life Sheree helped save and for the love she gave so freely to dogs who needed it most.

Our hearts are with everyone in our Tennessee rescue family who loved Sheree and is feeling this tremendous loss.

Rest easy, Sheree. ❤️ Your kindness and love will live on in every second chance you helped make possible. 🐾

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today, we’re celebrating every rescue dog who has been part of the Fetch + Releash journey. ❤️

The ones who arrived scared and unsure, but slowly learned what it meant to feel safe.
The ones who discovered cozy beds, belly rubs, toys, treats, and the joy of simply being a dog.
The ones who found their forever families and are now living the lives they always deserved.
And, of course, the incredible dogs still waiting for their turn. ❤️

Each one has their own story, personality, and perfect family out there somewhere. Until they find them, we’ll keep showing up, sharing their stories, and reminding them that they are already so loved.

Cosmo, Dexter, Kika, Kiko, Kyle, Lottie, Lua, Mavi & Wren are all still waiting for their forever families!

To every dog we’ve rescued along the way, every dog currently in our care, and every dog we have yet to meet — today is for you. 🐾

Want to be part of a rescue dog’s journey? There are so many ways to help:

🐾 Lottie is still looking for her forever home! 🐾

Lottie is growing, learning, and showing us more of her personality every day! 💕

She currently shares her foster home with resident dog Murphy, who has been helping show her the ropes on this whole “being a dog” thing. 🐶 Lottie absolutely loves playing with him and having a canine buddy by her side!

🧠 This smart girl has also been working hard with her foster family and is picking up new skills all the time. She’s already a pro at Sit and Down! They’re also working on Leave It, Touch, Place, and Stay, and Lottie is proving just how smart and eager to learn she is.

👧 Lottie has also been introduced to kids and she’s done great with both! She has shown herself to be calm and patient during these interactions. Of course, Lottie is still a puppy, so she has lots of puppy learning, growing, and manners to work on as she gets older.

🐶 Lottie can be a little timid when meeting new dogs and may need some time to feel comfortable. Once she does, though, her playful side comes out! A friendly, well-matched doggie sibling who can help build her confidence and spend her days playing alongside her could be a great fit. ❤️

Lottie is one smart, sweet girl with so much potential, and she’s ready to keep learning alongside a family of her own!

🏡 Could Lottie be the newest member of your family?

If you've been following us for a while, you'll probably remember Faris.

Faris came to us all the way from the streets of Egypt after being found in heartbreaking condition. He spent 1,064 days - just shy of three years - waiting in foster care for the family who would finally call him their own.

One year ago, that day finally came. ❤️

Today, we're celebrating Faris' Gotcha Day and sharing this beautiful update from his forever family:

"Faris has been settling in really well. His reactivity around other dogs has decreased significantly since I first got him, and he seems to be loving life as a spoiled only dog! He still loves pets and having his paw held, and I've even kept up with colouring in his eyebrows, just like his foster parents used to. I think I've created a safe and loving home where he can sleep, play, and just be himself. We continue to work on his training, and he's become so well-known and loved in our neighbourhood. Adopting Faris has been incredibly rewarding. I've learned so much from him, and I'm honoured to be the one who gets to give him his forever home." ❤️

Stories like Faris' remind us why we never give up on our long-stay dogs. Sometimes the perfect home takes a little longer to find, but when it does, every single day of waiting is worth it.

Happy one-year Adoptaversary, Faris! We couldn't be happier for you and your wonderful family. Here's to many more years of eyebrow touch-ups, paw holding, and being the spoiled boy you were always meant to be. 🥹🐾
