Fun ASF Fact Did you know African Soft Furs aren't actually mice or a rat!? While they look similar to house mice, ASFs belong to a completely different genus called Mastomys. Because they're genetically different, they cannot successfully breed with common mice or rats. This unique difference is one of the reasons ASFs have become so popular in the reptile community. Their distinct biology, size range, and a clean high protein nutritional profile set them apart from traditional feeder rodents. What looks like a mouse or rat is actually something entirely different—a reminder that you can't always judge a rodent by its whiskers!
