Running Dogs - Training & Behaviour

Running Dogs - Training & Behaviour Running Dogs - Training & Behaviour is a Toronto-based dog training service focused on the use of fo Buks changed the course of my life!

It wasn't until I adopted a young fearful dog up in the Yukon that I remembered how important living with animals was to me when I was young. If it weren't for him I wouldn't have ended up guiding dog sledding tours; spending long cold days with hundreds of dogs watching them closely, taking good care of them. If it wasn't for that scrappy mutt I wouldn't have ended up adopting out hundreds of dog

s at a large shelter in Toronto. If it wasn't for Bu, I wouldn't have sought to study animal behaviour, I wouldn't have become a compassionate trainer, and I wouldn't be helping dogs and their people get along better every day. Forever grateful for that pup

my sweet boy has left us.

Tenasi lived a long and rich life. He saw a lot of the world and made a strong impression on whoever he met wherever he went.

He was many things. He was sweet and tender, he was also powerful and fierce. He embodied so many special qualities, some that are harder to name than others but we're captured in remarks like ..

"He just looks like he knows things"

"If I were lost in the woods with Tenny, I'd definitely just follow him, it would be crazy to think I knew better!"

"How is he always finding the most beautiful places to watch the world from!?"

Tenasi made me believe in the existence of worlds beyond my perception. He had a connection to the land and the natural world that I could only aspire to. I know the world today better now thanks to him.

He was his own dog. I was so fortunate to be his companion for all these years. It was my greatest honour. I've never loved like I loved him. I gave him the best of myself and I would do it all over again and again.

He was beloved by many and I've been deeply touched by the effort made by so many people to come and see him during his last months and weeks and days. It was such a testament to how strongly people connected with him along the way - which is especially impressive given how asocial he was! :)

There was a lot that inhabited his body, spirits if you like, that are still here with me despite the absence of his body. But his body must also be remembered, it was such a phenomenal one! Tenasi's body was gorgeous and strong and highly sensitive to the environment. He moved swiftly through forests and mountains and lakes and rivers and deserts. Tenasi's body was hearty and healthy, but like all bodies it eventually returned to the earth.

He passed on the 15th of May just over 2 weeks after his 15th birthday. He left his body while sleeping on the balcony where he most loved to rest. He was surrounded by friends and family. The weather was unseasonably cool, which he loved, and the last thing he did was eat a croissant.

I will miss you forever my sweet boy.

Star has a lot of sillies in him! He loves to run, play tug, cuddle and more. Conveniently, what he doesn't have is much stamina😆 He's more of a power lifter than a marathon runner, and tbh, I love that about him! He's fun and exciting, but really manageable 🤌

In terms of special needs and ideal adopters, someone with lots of experience would be cool but really that's not essential. In my opinion, the qualities a prospective adopter should have aren't about technical training skills at all. What he really needs is someone who can be patient in getting to know him, and introduce him to new things slowly.

Have you heard of the low arousal approach? ✨
