While growing up, I trained in technical veterinary care, pet behaviour modification and professional dog grooming. Soon enough, my mission became my career and by the time I was 16, in 1990, The Groom Room was born. It's been a labour of love as I've grown my business to become two thriving locations in North York and I have carefully hand selected the most remarkable staff who share my ideals an

d expectations and have worked along side me to nurture my vision. When visiting The Groom Room, whether for a groom or a daycare frolic with friends, your pets are being cared for with the same love and attention as we give to our own treasured pets at home. It is such a joy to come to work to see dogs rolling around in play (too often after their baths!), lounge around watching the fun, sleep in a sunny spot or get one on one attention by one of my adoring staff members. I look forward to this new form of communication which I intend to use to keep you up to date with the goings on at The Groom Room, as well as to share important tips to help maintain your pets' health and maintenance AND to extend discounts when available. I am so proud of the goings on at both locations and on behalf of myself, Portia, Nataliya, Sandy, Dianne, Nadia and Yolande, I thank you for trusting us with your pets.

This is what we love to see⭐️

A puppy learning from a calm, balanced adult dog… and another dog focused on their groom, completely unbothered by the play happening around them.

Dogs aren’t born knowing how to regulate themselves in stimulating environments; they learn it.

Through exposure, guidance, and the presence of steady, well balanced dogs, puppies begin to understand social cues, boundaries, and how to settle.

Focus is a skill.
Calm is a skill.

And both can be taught when dogs are given the right opportunities.

This is why we value first appointments so much.
They give us insight into what each dog needs moving forward. There can be a bit of intensity at check in (even for regular visitors making the transition, but when things settle into this so quickly, that’s exactly what we’re looking for.
It’s also why we keep human clients outside on our covered porch for check in ☺️ Bringing more people into the space adds excitement and stimulation, which doesn’t help dogs settle.

At The Groom Room, we’re always thinking about the kind of environment we create for the dogs in our care.

While our space has a relaxed, daycare-style feel, we are a grooming salon first. Keeping our days thoughtfully structured helps ensure that every dog can have a calm and positive experience while they’re with us.

We truly care about every dog who walks through our door. Each one has their own personality, comfort level, and needs, and we always try to adjust our approach to support them as individuals.

Part of our role as grooming professionals is noticing when a dog may be feeling overwhelmed or unsure; whether that’s a senior dog who may do better with a shorter visit, or a young puppy who is still learning how to settle in a busy environment.

Offering different appointment options allows us to support each dog in the way that suits them best and helps set them up for success during their grooming experience.

As always, we believe in being open and transparent with our clients. If you ever have questions or want to talk about what type of appointment might be best for your dog, we’re always happy to chat. 🐾
