Allow us to reintroduce ourselves… meet co-owner Dr. Matt Spiegle 🐾

One of the hearts and souls behind everything we do here at East End Vets!

A second-generation veterinarian, Dr. Matt graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2008 alongside fellow co-owner Dr. Lara. Since then, he’s built a career rooted in compassionate care, small animal medicine, pet nutrition and veterinary telemedicine.

His dream was always to open a clinic in a community he loves, where pets are treated like family and relationships come first. That dream became East End Vets!

Beyond caring for his patients, Dr. Matt is passionate about mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals, sharing his knowledge, building confidence and helping young veterinarians grow in their careers.

Together with Dr. Lara, he’s helped create something truly special, a clinic built on kindness, connection, community and a whole lot of heart.

We’re so lucky to have his passion, dedication and leadership behind everything we do!

This Thanksgiving, we’re feeling extra grateful for our incredible community and all the furry faces that walk through our doors.

From wagging tails and wet noses to purrs and puppy cuddles, your pets bring so much joy to our days, and we feel so lucky to be part of their lives.

Wishing you and your four-legged family members a weekend full of love, cozy moments, and a few extra treats!

🦃 Thanksgiving Holiday Hours

East End Vets will be CLOSED Monday, October 12th for Thanksgiving.

Please make sure to get any food and medication orders in ASAP so your pet has everything they need for the long weekend.

If you need veterinary support while we’re closed, EEV clients have access to VetWise. Simply call 888-243-1411 to be connected with a veterinary professional for guidance and support.

Allow us to reintroduce ourselves… meet
Dr. Lara Zahra. 🤍🐾

Co-owner of East End Vets, veterinarian, mentor, surgeon, animal lover and one of the hearts behind everything we do.

For Dr. Lara, veterinary medicine was never just a career choice. Her love for animals started early and has taken her from the Ontario Veterinary College, to working in New Zealand and Southern Ontario, to developing a passion for minimally invasive surgery and becoming a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist.

But beyond the impressive résumé is what makes Dr. Lara so special: the way she cares. She believes deeply in building lifelong relationships with her clients and their pets, mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals, and making sure every animal who walks through our doors is treated with compassion.

East End Vets simply wouldn’t be what it is without her. We’re so lucky to have Dr. Lara leading, teaching, laughing and caring alongside us every day.

If you know her, you love her. And if you haven’t met her yet…we can’t wait for you to. ❤️🐾

October is National Pet Wellness Month! 🐾

Wellness is about so much more than treating our pets when they’re sick, it’s about helping them stay happy, healthy and feeling their best through every stage of life.

Regular wellness visits give us the chance to:
✨ Catch potential health concerns early
🩺 Keep vaccines and preventative care up to date
🦷 Stay on top of dental health
⚖️ Monitor weight, nutrition and lifestyle
🐕 Talk about any changes in behaviour, mobility or overall wellbeing

And most importantly, they give us a chance to get to know your pet because preventative care looks a little different for every animal.

This October, consider it your friendly reminder to check in on your pet’s wellness!

Here’s to more healthy years, happy tails and time together.

October is Fundraising for Farley Month! 🐾

This month, East End Vets is proud to be raising funds in support of the Farley Foundation helping people and pets stay together by assisting Ontario pet owners facing financial hardship with the cost of essential veterinary care.

Because we believe every pet deserves access to the care they need, and no one should have to choose between their finances and the health of a beloved family member. ❤️

Throughout October, you’ll have the opportunity to donate and help us support this incredible cause. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

🐾 Allow us to introduce Clare, our newest Registered Veterinary Technician!

Clare graduated from Seneca Polytechnic in 2026 and successfully completed the VTNE shortly after. She has spent the last several years building her experience across a variety of veterinary practices and is passionate about helping pets feel safe, comfortable and cared for during every visit.

With a special interest in animal behaviour and cognition, Clare is always looking for ways to reduce stress and create a more positive experience for her patients. She also has special interests in dentistry, clinical pathology, anesthesia and pain management.

Outside of EEV, Clare volunteers with her local humane society, helping provide training and socialization to dogs as they prepare to find their forever homes. When she’s not caring for animals, you can find her playing music, spending time in nature, or spoiling her senior pups, Tobi and Stella. 🤍

We’re so happy to have Clare as part of the East End Vets team. Be sure to say hi when you see her around the clinic, she can’t wait to meet you and your pets! 🐶🐱

We know not every pet loves a trip to the vet… and that’s okay.

That’s why we do everything we can to make your visit feel a little more comfortable and a lot less stressful, cozy benches for you and your furry family members, a team who will love on your pets like they’re our own and, of course, treats for everyone (yes, humans included 😉).

Because a visit to the vet should feel a little less clinical and a little more like coming to see friends.
