Heidi: The HEART of Rouge Valley Veterinary Hospital
(August 27, 2007- June 21, 2026)
Scarborough Animal Services rescued a tiny cat from an underground parking garage, where she had been found with her paw caught in her pink collar, leaving her with a deep wound and a serious infection.
When she arrived at Rouge Valley Veterinary Hospital for treatment, it didn't take long for the entire staff to fall completely in love with her. Despite the pain she was in, she never stopped purring and was always reaching out for cuddles.
By the time her treatment was complete, one thing had become clear: She had chosen her forever home. They named her Heidi, after an orphaned girl who had many adventures.
Over the next 18 years, 10 months, and 6 days, Heidi became the HEART of the clinic, bringing joy to everyone who walked through its doors. She loved watching "cat TV" from her many beds, looking for birds to play with through the glass windows, basking in the sunshine on the entrance carpet, and sharing her affection with staff and visitors alike.
Even after developing chronic kidney disease, Heidi faced every day with the same grace and spirited determination that had defined her life. She would often dash away after receiving an injection, only to return five minutes later as if nothing had happened, demanding the cuddles she believed she was owed.
On June 21, 2026, at 10:20 a.m., Heidi passed away comfortably, surrounded by the people who loved her most and in spirit with those who were afar.
She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, unconditional love, and quiet companionship. For nearly two decades, Heidi wasn't just the clinic cat—she was family. Her gentle purrs, warm presence, and remarkable spirit touched countless lives. Heidi is forever the BEATING HEART of Rouge Valley Veterinary Hospital.
