🐾 September is Animal Pain Awareness Month.

Did you know that pets often hide their pain? Unlike people, they can’t tell us when something hurts, and many animals instinctively hide signs of discomfort.

Watch for subtle changes such as:

🐶 Less interest in walks or play
🐱 Hiding or becoming less social
🐾 Difficulty getting up, sitting, or climbing stairs
🍽️ Changes in appetite
😴 Sleeping more than usual
💭 Changes in behaviour or personality
🧼 Changes in grooming habits

Even small changes can be important.

If your pet is acting differently, don’t assume it’s simply “getting older.” Pain can often be managed, and early intervention can make a big difference in your pet’s comfort and quality of life. 💙

Did you know many cats see the veterinarian far less often than dogs? Yet cats are masters at hiding pain and illness.

The Feline Veterinary Medical Association and Fear Free® encourage regular veterinary visits to help detect health issues early and make appointments as stress-free as possible.

Here are a few Fear Free tips before your visit:
🐾 Leave the carrier out at home so your cat sees it as a safe space.
🐾 Use treats, toys, and positive reinforcement to build positive associations.
🐾 Cover the carrier with a light towel during travel to reduce visual stress.
🐾 Talk with your veterinary team if your cat becomes anxious—they can recommend additional strategies or medications when appropriate.
