Why do we spray soapy water when finishing silicone? 👀

After the silicone bead is applied, we lightly mist the surrounding surface with a soap and water solution. The solution acts as a release agent, helping prevent excess silicone from adhering to areas outside the joint during tooling.

This allows the bead to be shaped and the excess silicone removed more cleanly, leaving a crisp, consistent finished seam.

Important: the solution is applied after the silicone is in the joint, not to the bonding surfaces before application. The glass to silicone bond needs clean, properly prepared surfaces.

Clean bond. Clean tooling. Clean finish. 👌

Every silicone application is done with intention: clean preparation, consistent beads, careful tooling, and the patience to get it right. We don't rush builds to get them out the door. We put in the work because the quality of an aquarium starts long before the water goes in.
